NHL Best Bets: CGY/EDM u6.5 +100 (BETDSI)
Yes you are reading that correctly. While the Edmonton Oilers have been an offensive powerhouse in recent years, the under feels like a much better bet. This is the first outdoor game of the season, and like other outdoor games the condition of the ice can really slow down the pace of the game.
Out of the six Heritage Classics since 2010 only one game has gone over 7 goals. The other major outdoor NHL event, The Winter Classic, has only had a single game over 7 goals in its last 10 events. This doesn’t even begin to factor in both teams recent goalscoring drought.
The Edmonton Oilers shockingly are ranked 26th in goals scored per game. Their opponent the Calgary Flames rank 30th. Both of these teams are struggling to get their offenses going. The Oilers have only had 4+ goals in three games this season, while the Flames have only scored 4+ goals twice this season.
Another huge factor leading to the under being a great bet is the fact that Edmonton may be without their best player Connor McDavid. McDavid has missed several games with a lower body injury. He was projected to miss 1-2 weeks but is a game time decision tonight. However, even if he plays he may not be 100% healthy.
Grabbing this under at plus money seems like on of the NHL best bets in what should be a gritty and heated game.
Evan Bouchard o2.5 SOG (+120) on Bovada
Evan Bouchard has had a break out near the end of last season and in the NHL playoffs. He has continued that into this season, becoming Edmonton’s top offensive defenseman and running the top power play unit.
He has become a huge weapon for the Oilers as he is able to blast pucks to the net with ease on the power play. He has hit his shots on goal (SOG) prop in 5 games this season, hitting at a 71% rate. He is averaging 6.6 shot attempts per game.
The Calgary Flames can be a tough team against SOG, however their weakest position is against defensemen. They allow the 12th most SOG from defensemen in the league.
If McDavid is not completely healthy Bouchard will be relied on more heavily to keep plays going and pressure on the Flames, especially during the power play. Luckily the Flames allow the 10th most penalties per game.
This is a gem of an NHL player prop, especially at plus money. You can also find his assist for +100 on Bovada, another prop that is worth betting on.
