See Picks & Statistics For The GameWe’re going to the toughest division in the league, and we have a showdown. The Carolina Hurricanes head to New Jersey to take on the Devils for the 1st game of a home at home. This will be the 2nd time this season that these 2 teams play, and the Devils won the 1st game 4-2.
New Jersey has been killing it to start. They have a 23-11-3 and are in 1st place in the Metro Division. The Devils come into this game off back-to-back wins and are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. So far, they are 11-6-3 at home and 7-3-2 in divisional matchups.
The team is very offense heavy. They rank 7th in the league for goals scored and 6th for shots on goal per game. New Jersey has the 2nd best power play, so getting the Canes to commit stupid penalties can be huge.
This team is just as good on defense. Only allowing 2.46 goals per game, the Devils rank the best in league. For shots on goal allowed per game, they rank 2nd best as well. This defense really clamps you down and is just as good in net.
Jacob Markstrom is expected in net tonight. He has a 18-6-2 record with a 2.12 GAA and a .912 save percentage. Markstrom will look to continue his success so far this season into this game.
High flying Hurricanes will look to steal one on the road
Carolina is having a good season so far. They are 21-12-1 this season and 3rd in the Metro Division. The Canes come into this game off a loss to the Predators on Monday night. This is team is 5-5-0 in their last 10 games and are 8-8-1 on the road.
In divisional matchups, Carolina is 10-3-1, so they’ll be looking to keep that going. The teams in the Metro have really lined up very closely over the last few years, so the standings are always tight. The division has fallen off a bit this season withs some teams taking a beating.
The Canes are also very offense heavy. They rank 5th in the league for goals scored and 2nd for shots on goal per game. Like New Jersey, Carolina has a very good power play and also a good defense.
Defensively, the Hurricanes allow less than 3 goals per game and the 3rd least shots on goal per game. This team has a great penalty kill that is 2nd best in the league. The Devils do commit the 7th most penalties in the league, so they’ll need to be careful.
Goalie Pyotr Kochetkov is expected to be in net. He has a 14-6-0 record with a 2.43 GAA and a .903 save percentage. He will look to get the Canes back in to the win column. Let’s check out the odds and get into the picks.

We’re taking the Under in this game at even money. Not only should we see 2 good goalies, but we are going to see 2 great defenses. I think defense is what will be the difference maker tonight. We’re also getting really good value here.
Both teams are great on both ends of the ice, but these goalies are going to be dialed. Divisional games become more and more important as the season goes on, so securing the wins now is huge.
In goal, we are going to see guys with less than 3 GAA’s as well. Carolina didn’t start Kochetkov in the 1st matchup this season and he is playing much better than Spencer Martin who started last game.
For props, I like Jack Hughes to record an assist at -108. He has 3 apples in the game earlier this season. Hughes also has 4 assists in his last 4 games. Shots on goal have been tricky this season and these 2 teams smother the puck, so I’ll be staying away.
