See Picks & Statistics For The GameWe have a matchup from the Eastern Conference tonight. The New York Islanders will take on the Ottawa Senators. It will be the 1st time these 2 meet this season. Both teams aren’t off to the best start, but it is early.
New York comes into this game with a 5-6-2 record, sitting in 6th in the Metro. They are coming off a shootout win vs the Penguins Tuesday night. This team has shown new offensive buzz compared to years past.
The Islanders are currently 4th in the league for shots on goal per game, averaging 32.5. But on the other side of things, they’re not find the back of the net, only averaging 2.3 goals per game. That ranks 2nd worse in the league.
Injuries haven’t been kind to this team either. They first lost newcomer Anthony Duclair and now have lost Mat Barzal for 4-6 weeks. Defenseman Adam Pelech is on the IR with a broken jaw. Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to be in net. He has a 4-3-1 record with a 2.36 GAA and a .921 save percentage.
Ottawa will look to continue to stay hot on home ice
Ottawa is off to a slow start as mentioned. They’re 6-6-0 so far this season and their season wins and losses are interesting. At home this season, the Senators are 5-1-0, which means on the road – they’re 1-5-0. Luckily for them it’s a home game.
This team has a really good offense. They rank 8th in the league for goals scored per game (3.58) and are tied for 5th in shots on goal per game (32). Ottawa also has the 4th best Power Play in the league with a 30.8% conversion rate.
Tim Stutzle has been off to a hot start with 6 goals and a team leading 11 assists. Captain Brady Tkachuk is right behind him with 7 goals and 9 assists. Both players, along with Drake Batherson and Claude Giroux, lead this Ottawa offense.
The team picked up Linus Ullmark in the offseason from Boston. He is 2-4-0 to start the season with a 3.02 GAA and a .892 save percentage. Ullmark has lost his last 2 starts, so he’ll look to bounce back tonight.

I really like this spot for the Islanders. Although the Sens are a good home team, they match up well vs the Islanders. New York fairs almost the same on the road vs at home, so they can contend in Ottawa.
Ilya Sorokin is also due for a big game. He hasn’t had a shutout yet this season and this is a weird spot for one, but I kind of like it. Now he’ll allow a goal in the first minute, but I digress. Sorokin does have a sub 2.5 GAA, but the Sens average 3.58 goals per game, so he’s going to need help.
The Islanders have been playing hurt, but still making things work. Anders Lee and Brock Nelson have both been offensive units for the team. Noah Dobson has picked up where he left off from last season as well. These guys are part of the core of this team.
Since it’s a weird spot for the Islanders, I’m taking them. I like Kyle Palmieri to record 3 or more shots on goal. He has hit the mark in his last 3 games and his last 4 games vs the Senators. A real wild card that I like is Oliver Wahlstrom to score a goal. He has scored in 4 out of 6 games vs Ottawa and the price should be around 7-1 odds.
