Today’s Stanley Cup Final and NHL Conn Smythe Trophy update are brought to you by BetOnline. BetOnline is a market leader in sports betting, offering various options from Connor McDavid-based bets to other NHL markets and everything in between.
The 2024 Stanley Cup Final appeared to be finished after three games, but that’s no longer the case. The Edmonton Oilers have fought hard to back-to-back wins, cutting the Florida Panthers’ championship series lead down to 3-2. Of course, many NHL bettors are wondering how this turnaround could affect the Conn Smythe Trophy race.
After all, Connor McDavid has played a massive role in the Oilers’ comeback efforts. The 27-year-old phenom has been shattering records this postseason and will all but certainly be in the Conn Smythe conversation if Edmonton takes home the Stanley Cup.
So, is McDavid a good pick to be named this year’s postseason MVP? Let’s take a look at the latest Conn Smythe odds before discussing his case.

NHL Stanley Cup Final 2024: Conn Smyth Odds Update
NHL Conn Smythe odds are courtesy of BetOnline as of Wednesday, June 19 at 11:15 a.m. ET. Odds from other top online sportsbooks may also be mentioned in this article.
- Connor McDavid, EDM (-165)
- Aleksander Barkov, FLA (+200)
- Sergei Bobrovsky, FLA (+450)
- Matthew Tkachuk, FLA (+5000)
As you can see from BetOnline’s latest odds, Connor McDavid heads into Game 6 as the odds-on favorite to receive the 2024 Conn Smythe Trophy. His -165 odds carry an implied win probability of 62.3%.
Even though his Oilers are tailing by a game, it isn’t shocking to see McDavid as the playoff MVP favorite. For starters, the former first-overall pick leads all postseason players with 42 points, which is 10 more than the next-closest player (Evan Bouchard, 32).
To put things into perspective, McDavid’s playoff run is one of the greatest in NHL history. Only Wayne Gretzky (twice) and Mario Lemieux recorded more points in a single playoff run, highlighting just how impressive McDavid has been. If he records six points in the next two games, he’ll stand atop the list by himself.
Hell, he’s already broken at least five NHL playoff records thus far, so what’s another to his list?
Will Connor McDavid continue to break more of Wayne Gretzky’s records?
Even if you only want to focus on the current round, the three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner has been the best player in the 2024 Stanley Cup Final. He’s scored three times while leading both teams in assists (8) and points (11). The next player on this list is the Panthers’ Evan Rodrigues with six points.
Considering how McDavid has nearly doubled Rodrigues’ output, it’s easy to see why oddsmakers love the former as the Conn Smythe favorite.
So, is he a good pick? Absolutely. You can go back to my Stanley Cup Final preview to see that I recommended McDavid as the early MVP favorite when his odds sat at +250. His odds are growing shorter and shorter by the day, meaning it’s a good idea to jump on them while you can before they lose more value.
McDavid is the best player on the planet and deserves to be in the Conn Smythe race, whether the Oilers win or lose. He’s going to make his presence felt every game and as long as he doesn’t take his foot off the gas, it might not be long before he adds another award to his collection.
