On Saturday, two of the biggest names in club football will meet in the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final, as Liverpool take on Real Madrid at the Stade de France in Paris.
Interestingly, Liverpool defeated Spanish opposition in the semis, while Real Madrid saw off English opposition in the last four.
This will be a rematch of the 2018 final in Kyiv, which Real Madrid won 3-1. All four goals came in the second half, with Gareth Bale scoring twice on the way to taking Man of the Match honors.

Will Liverpool see off another Spanish foe?
Liverpool ousted Spanish opposition in the semi-final when beating last season’s Europa League winners Villarreal over two legs.
The aggregate score in that match read 5-2 in the EPL team’s favour, but the tie was a little closer than the bare result would suggest.
The Reds won 2-0 in the first leg at Anfield, giving themselves a seemingly comfortable cushion heading into the second leg in Spain.
But in the second leg, Villarreal scored twice in the first half, levelling matters on aggregate. However, Liverpool scored three second-half goals to win 3-2 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate.
This will be Liverpool’s seventh game of the month, and they have picked up four wins and two draws in their first six matches in May.
The Reds were able to find the net in all but one of those matches, the spare being that goalless draw with Chelsea in the final of the FA Cup.
Liverpool saw their quadruple dreams end on Sunday when they were pipped to the Premier League title by Manchester City. But they still have the chance to secure a treble of cup wins and win the Champions League for the second time in four seasons.

- Won 3-1
- Won 2-1
- Drew 0-0
- Won 2-1

Real coast into the final with La Liga title locked up
Last season was a tough one for fans of Real Madrid to take as they lost the La Liga title to city rivals Atletico Madrid and fell short in this competition.
The club underwent sweeping changes, and that gamble is about to pay off. They won the La Liga title by 13 points, and after a dramatic comeback against Manchester City in the semis, Carlo Ancelotti’s side is poised for a return to the European mountaintop as well.
Real Madrid’s last five results aren’t exactly impressive, but excuses can be made for them. They won La Liga with time to spare and, having crossed the line as champions, could afford to let their guard down.
They have played five times this month and won only twice, beating Man City in the semi-finals of this competition and hammering Levante 6-0 in the league.
The last two games, which were draws against Cadiz and Real Betis to end the La Liga campaign, prove the players have had one eye on Liverpool as the final has edged closer.
Last five results for Real Madrid
- Draw 0-0
- Draw 1-1
- Won 6-0
- Lost 1-0
- Won 3-1
Salah, Benzema likely to be on target at Stade de France?
Big games are won by big players, and in this section, we focus on the game-changers in each team. These are the players who are proven goalscorers and are capable of winning the match.
Liverpool’s leading scorer this season is Mo Salah, who has scored 31 goals and provided 15 assists in 50 games played. That’s a goal every 127 minutes. The Egyptian has also found the net eight times in this competition.
When these two teams met in the quarterfinals of last season’s Champions League, Salah was on target in Liverpool’s 3-1 loss in the first leg in Madrid.
Real Madrid are renowned for their scoring abilities, and they haven’t been shy in front of goal again this season.
Blancos boast the Champions League’s top scorer in Karim Benzema, who has netted 15 times and provided two assists in 11 games.
Benzema is set to take home this season’s Golden Boot, and the Frenchman will want to sign off in style, clinching a personal award while winning his team the European Cup. In the 2018 final, Benzema scored the game’s opening goal in the 51st minute.
At BetOnline, Salah is +440 to score first and +145 to score anytime, while Benzema is +480 to score first and +150 to score anytime.
Expect goals galore and another European title for Real Madrid
Both teams have scored in five of six games, and that’s worth keeping in mind when making your predictions for this match. You can back both teams to score and have an interest for the entire match as the Reds and Blancos are good enough to score at any time.
In the Champions League, both teams have scored in each of their last four outings.
Liverpool have scored 11 goals in their last four games while conceding six. Madrid have racked up a total of 11 goals while conceding nine and that supporters our earlier picks for this match.
The last three Champions League finals have been won to nil, but with the firepower that both Liverpool and Real Madrid have, expect to see both teams find the back of the net on Saturday.
Liverpool will be eager to add to their European Cup haul and erase the memories of the 2018 final, but Real are the kings of Europe past and present for a reason. They have not lost a European Cup final since 1981, when they were beaten 1-0 by Liverpool at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
That French final went Liverpool’s way, but this one will not. Look for Los Blancos to maintain their formidable final record and be crowned champions of Europe for a 14th time.
