We go to the early game on the 4-game slate in the WNBA today. The Los Angeles Sparks (15-18) will take on the Connecticut Sun (23-11) at the Mohegan Sun Area.
The Sparks are red hot right now, coming in on a 6-game streak. Beating the Dream twice and the Aces once to name a few. LA is 7-3 in their last 10 games and are 6-10 on the road this year.
Jordin Canada and Nneka Ogwumike have led the Sparks during this stretch and this year. Canada has really stepped up, having double digit points in the last 6 games. She has also had 7+ assists in 6 of her last 7 games.
Ogwumike is just coming off a 29-point, 12 rebound performance. She has had 17+ points in her last 7 out of 8 games while also having 4 games with double digit rebounds.
These ladies have a tough task ahead of them though as they go into the house of the Connecticut Sun. DeWanna Bonner and Alyssa Thomas have this team sitting in 2nd place in the Eastern Conference.
Bonner is leading the team in scoring with 18.2 points per game as well as 5.6 rebounds per game. Her counterpart, Thomas, is playing on a whole other level. She is almost averaging a triple double on the year with 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game.
Connecticut hasn’t been playing their best basketball, sitting at 5-5 in their last 10 games. They are 9-6 at home which is the best either, just coming off a loss at home to the New York Liberty.
Do the Sun have what it takes to cool down the Sparks?
This run for the Sparks is definitely out of nowhere, but it’s at the right time. With 7 games left in the season, getting hot at the right time can be huge. Connecticut poses a huge threat to the win streak though.
They will play 3 contending teams in the Liberty, Sun and Mystics. The other 3 games will be played against the Sky and the Storm twice.
Sparks played the Sun back in mid-June and lost by 9 points. With the run they’re on right now, they could definitely change that this game. Canada and Ogwumike will have to continue their dominant play for the Sparks to stay in this game.
With the streak aside, the Sun are the better team. They out rank the Sparks in points per game and field goal percentage. Connecticut is also 3rd in the league for assists while crashing the boards better than LA.
This should be a good matchup. Will the Sun bounce back and will it be enough to beat the streaking Sparks? Let’s talk about the lines and best bets.

Los Angeles Sparks vs Connecticut Sun Predictions and Picks
Pick: Los Angeles Sparks +6 (-110)
I think this line is a nice sport for the Sparks. They’re coming in on this run and 6 points is a good number vs a struggling Sun team.
Expect Ogwumike and Canada to fill the stat line. Canada is going to need to move the ball around as she has been doing all year. Lately she has really been scoring the ball, so they will need that to continue as well.
Ogwumike will need to score the ball. She’s averaging 19.6 points per game on 51.6% shooting this year. She also crashes the boards so well, so she’s going to need to bring it all to help lead her team.
With each game becoming more and more important, I think the Sparks really have their eye on making the playoffs. This continued play can do just that. Give me the Sparks on the spread and I think they keep the streak going so I may or may not be sprinkling the ML…!
Player Prop: Jordin Canada O6.5 Assists (-125)
Jordin has been killing this stat line. Even with the bump we have seen from 5-5 to 6.5, she has still been coming through for the kids.
She has hit this line in her last 2 games and in 6 out of her last 7 games. Canada has been such a huge piece of this run that the Sparks are on and I don’t see her slowing down.
Canada is having the best year of her career, averaging 13.7 points per game on 41% shooting and 6.1 assists per game. Love this spot for her to continue her great play.
