Of the opening set of WNBA games, the lone upset saw the Minnesota Lynx go to Seattle and take down the Storm by 13 on Tuesday night.
Tonight, the Storm will look to return the favorite as they visit the Target Center (9:30 pm ET, WNBA League Pass).
In Tuesday’s game at Climate Pledge Arena, the Storm led almost the entire first half, and after the Lynx into the break with a one-point advantage, Seattle went back up by five in the third.
From that point, however, the Storm were outscored 34-16 the rest of the way, including 20-10 in the fourth quarter.
Given that the Storm entered the season expected to be one of the WNBA’s best teams after adding Skylar Diggins-Smith and Nneka Ogwumike and the Lynx were expected to be one of the league’s poorer teams despite some interesting additions of their own, Tuesday’s result could be considered a major surprise, especially as the Storm were heavily favored at home.
Will we see Minnesota prove it was no fluke tonight?

Seattle Storm vs Minnesota Lynx Betting Analysis
While the Storm did stink it up in the second half on Tuesday, it was just the first game of the season, and it can take some time for a team with some significant additions to gel.
That can be the case even with a team who was already an established contender, but the Storm had the second worst record in the WNBA last season at 11-29. Also, Diggins-Smith sat out last season while on maternity leave, and Ogwumike was on a Sparks team that went 17-23 last season.
So, there may be some early slips and stumbles as they try to fulfill their prodigious potential.
That may include tonight at the Target Center, where the Lynx will look to pick up a big win a night after the Timberwolves blew away the Denver Nuggets by 45 to force a Game 7 in their NBA Western Conference semifinal series.
In addition to retaining the likes of Napheesa Collier and Kayla McBride, the Lynx added Courtney Williams, Alanna Smith, and Natisha Hiedeman, all of whom were starters on playoff teams last season.
Smith (22 points, eight rebounds), Williams (14 points, seven assists, five rebounds), and Hiedeman (nine points, five rebounds) all contributed in Tuesday’s win, while Collier (20 points, 12 rebounds) did what Collier did 11 times last season and had a 20-point, 10-rebound game.
Are the Lynx going to be much better than expected? Are the Storm going to fall short of lofty expectations? It’s too early to tell for either possible outcome, but there is reason to believe that the Lynx have the talent and potential to both silence the Storm again and outperform preseason prognostications.
