The professional wrestling world is buzzing as WWE SummerSlam goes down on Saturday, August 5. The biggest party of the summer — which takes place at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan — is bound to be a memorable night loaded with marquee matchups.
An event of this magnitude has a ton to keep track of, from the Tribal Combat main event to the plethoras of championship belts. Fortunately, your friends at Betting News have all of your pro wrestling betting needs covered this week.
Here’s a look at the latest WWE SummerSlam odds, as well as predictions and picks for each matchup.
WWE SummerSlam Predictions 2023
The WWE SummerSlam odds listed below are as of 9:40 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4 via BetOnline.
Tribal Combat: Roman Reigns (-2000) vs. Jey Uso (+700)
This year’s main event is about much more than the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship. Not only is Roman Reigns putting the gold on the line against his cousin Jey Uso, but the winner will also be declared the Tribal Chief of the Anoa'i family.
And not only is it the likely main event, but it’ll also be Tribal Combat — a match type that’s yet to be seen.
Uso has done a great job at becoming a main event player since the Bloodline story began and while he’s world championship material, I don’t him pulling off the upset. Reigns is still on another level and all signs point to a rematch with Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40.
Could Reigns, theoretically, drop the championship Saturday and win it back a few months down the line? Sure, but Uso already got his monumental win when he became the first person to pin his cousins in years at Money in the Bank last month.
In what’ll be another emotional battle, back Reigns to remain the Tribal Chief at the end of WWE SummerSlam.
Best Bet: Roman Reigns (-2000)
Cody Rhodes (-1500) vs. Brock Lesnar (+600)
Another massive bout that fans are looking forward to is the rubber match between Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar. Rhodes was victorious when they first met at Backlash, however, the “Beast Incarnate” evened things with a submission win at Night of Champions.
It’s hard imagining Rhodes losing this matchup. WWE has done a great job at building him up as a white-meat hero and overcoming Lesnar this weekend will only make him more popular with the crowd. A loss for Lesnar doesn’t hurt his hall-of-fame presence, whereas Rhodes losing would derail his momentum.
It’s probably going to be another physical contest between two wrestlers who have brought out the best in each other thus far. However, Rhodes needs the win more and overcoming Lesnar at WWE SummerSlam will further cement his legitimacy.
Best Bet: Cody Rhodes (-1500)
Logan Paul (-400) vs. Ricochet (+250)
Much like his boxer has done in boxing, Logan Paul has found a place for himself in the world of pro wrestling. He hasn’t looked out of place at all in the squared circle and looks to keep things going when he takes on the always-athletic Ricochet in Detroit.
I see this match being one that could steal the show in the Motor City. Both Paul and Ricochet are athletic specimens, highlighted by their midair collision at the Royal Rumble earlier this year.
At the end of the day, I’m taking Paul to squeeze out the victory. He’s looked great in the ring but is still missing that key victory to help fans take him seriously. Beating a well-established name that can afford a loss like Ricochet will help achieve that goal.
Best Bet: Logan Paul (-400)
MMA Rules: Rhonda Rousey (+425) vs. Shayna Baszler (-800)
Another unique WWE SummerSlam clash sees Rhonda Rousey and Shayna Baszler clashing in an MMA Rules match. The two were long-time friends until Baszler turned on Rousey last month, having had enough of being in the latter’s shadow.
With rumors that Rousey has one foot out the door, I’m expecting Baszler to win in a dominant fashion. Rousey will likely get a few solid shots/moves in before Baszler finishes her with a submission hold, likely in a way that writes the multi-time champion off TV for good.
Best Bet: Shayna Baszler (-800)
WWE SummerSlam Picks 2023
Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (-850) vs. Drew McIntyre (+450)
Gunther has been one of the WWE’s brightest spots since being called up from NXT. His Intercontinental Championship reign has now hit 417-plus days, putting him less than two months away from surpassing the Honkey Tonk Man’s legendary 454-day reign.
While Drew McIntyre is one of Gunther’s toughest challenges to date, I see the “Ring General” emerging victorious. McIntyre has only been back for about a month and this matchup doesn’t feel like it has the build that a legendary reign-ending feud would have.
It’s going to be a brutal battle and McIntyre will have a few close calls, but Gunther is on another level. With the champion also being this close to making history, I don’t see the train stopping now.
Best Bet: Gunther (-850)
Triple Threat Women's Championship Match: Asuka (-160) vs. Charlotte Flair (+185) vs. Bianca Belair (+400)
Asuka will do what she can to survive at WWE SummerSlam. Her women’s championship is on the line in a triple threat match against two of the best to step foot in the ring over the last decade: Charlotte Flair and Bianca Belair.
The argument can be made that Asuka’s reign still has some legs, but I’m taking Flair to win for a few reasons. For starters, WWE loves to pad her championship stats, highlighted by 13 world title reigns with many of them being relatively short.
I’m also taking Flair to win because I expect IYO SKY to cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase (+300 odds) after the match.
While Asuka could be cashed in upon, I see Belair cementing her heel turn by attacking Flair after the match, opening the door for SKY to become the new champion.
Best Bet: Charlotte Flair (+185)
World Heavyweight Championship Match: Seth Rollins (-150) vs. Finn Balor (+110)
This matchup is seven years in the making. Seth Rollins and Finn Balor first duked it out at SummerSlam 2016, resulting in Balor becoming the inaugural WWE Universal Champion. Unfortunately, he tore his labrum in the victory, causing him to relinquish the title one night later.
Even though Rollins has only held the world heavyweight championship for a few months, his time as champion is coming to an end. Balor doesn’t need to lose another world title match and with his Judgment Day being one of wrestling’s hottest groups, it only makes sense to give him the gold.
Maybe Damian Priest will help Balor in by pretending to cash in his MITB briefcase or maybe it’ll be an outright victory. Either way, I expect a new champion once the dust settles.
Best Bet: Finn Balor (+110)
