Price Returns for Red Sox. Is it too little too late for the defending World…

As David Price returns to the starting rotation for the Red Sox, you may wonder whether he’ll provide enough momentum for the team to kick into another gear. 

As of now, the Red Sox are completely out of the AL East race. The Yankees have a 15.5 game on Boston and an 11.5 game lead on the Rays. With the division being out of the question, they must rely on securing a Wild Card spot. 

This will be no easy task as they’re currently 5.5 games behind the A’s and 7 games behind the Indians. With only 26 games left, they have to go on a serious run. 

Injury Problems

Price, who has started in 21 games this year has a 7-5 record with a 4.36 ERA. The pitcher had been struggling before he was placed on the injury list with a cyst that formed in his wrist. He became officially listed as injured back on August 8th. 

The Red Sox have already lost Chris Sale to an elbow injury that will likely keep him out the remainder of the year. With a rotation that is underperforming and injured, the Red Sox chances at a playoff birthday seem more unlikely by the day. 

Hopeful Roster Move

One thing the Red Sox’s’ hope will set a spark is prospect Bobby Dalbec coming up from the minors. Dalbec will look to continue his power-hitting ways as he’s hit 26 homers in triple-A. 

The 24-year old who is also batting an impressive .293 in the minors will attempt to support Boston in a late Wild Card push. One player can only do so much, but the team will take any help they can get at the moment. 

No Time to Waste

No doubt it’s been a disappointing season for the 2018 World Series Champions, but the season isn’t over just yet. They won their last series against the Rockies and will look to do the same against the Angels starting on Friday. 

Following the Angels, they will play the Twins and Yankees. Two powerhouses that won’t be easy matchups. With a combined 7 games being played against these two teams, it’ll be a pristine opportunity to gain some ground on other Wild Card contenders. 

Not making the playoffs after taking it home the previous season would be a total let down for the organization, but it’s definitely not their first time playing the underdog role. Expect the team to give it their all in the final stretch. 

With a 7-3 record in the last ten games, maybe this is the run they’ve been looking for. For the recent success to continue, David Price and his fellow pitchers will have to be on the top of their game. It’s crunch time in the MLB, and as September approaches there’s no room for underachieving.
