Thursday was a relatively quiet night when it comes to basketball, but the NBA is back with a massive 10-game slate on Friday, Jan. 12. There are a pair of games being nationally broadcasted on ESPN, starting with a clash between the Sacramento Kings (23-14) and Philadelphia 76ers (23-13) at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Tonight’s tilt marks the third outing on the Kings’ five-game road trip after opening it with back-to-back victories over the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets. The 76ers, meanwhile, are tasked with trying to avoid their fourth straight loss, having only won once since the calendar changed to 2024.
When it comes to Bovada’s 2023-24 NBA Finals odds, there is quite a bit of distance between these times. Despite recent struggles, Philadelphia is still tied for the fifth-best odds (+1200) to go on a championship run while Sacrament holds the 13th-best odds (+4000).
Will the Kings keep the good times rolling? Or will the 76ers finally return to the win column? Let’s dive into my betting preview and best bets to find out.

Kings vs 76ers Prediction & Pick (1/12)
As far as the history between these teams goes, the 76ers tend to get the better of the Kings. In fact, Sacramento has lost nine straight games against Philadelphia ahead of tonight’s contest and hasn’t even won at Wells Fargo Center since a 101-95 victory on Dec. 19, 2017.
With that in mind, now is the perfect time to end that streak. The 76ers are currently playing terribly, going 1-4 SU with a minus-10.8 average scoring margin in their last five games. It doesn’t help that they’ve also lost back-to-back home games while being outscored 259-241 on aggregate.
Meanwhile, the Kings have won six of their last eight games, establishing a great deal of momentum along the way. Even though only one of those victories came against a team with a winning record, they’re at least beating opponents that they shouldn’t struggle against whereas the 76ers are 1-3 SU against their last four foes who are below .500.
Mike Brown’s team is also playing comfortably on the road lately. The Kings have won four straight road games ahead of their trip to Philly, outscoring those opponents by an average of 21 points.
Will recent momentum help the Kings defeat the 76ers for the first time since 2019?
Aside from losses piling up, another thing going against the 76ers is that they’ll be without Joel Embiid again tonight. The NBA MVP contender is dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of the lineup since Jan. 5. There’s no doubt that Philly will miss the league’s leading scorer as he’s averaging 34.6 points on 64.5% true shooting with 11.8 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
For reference, the 76ers are 2-7 SU in the last nine games that Embiid has missed. Additionally, they’re set to be without Kenneth Lofton Jr. (shoulder) and Robert Covington (knee).
Missing Embiid will make it tough for the 76ers to keep pace with the Kings, who average 118.2 PPG (8th) and have scored 123 or more points five times in their seven previous outings. Sacramento is also the healthier squad as its only injury designation is Kevin Huerter, who’s a game-time decision due to an ankle issue.

It’s hard to trust the 76ers at the momentum — especially in their Embiid-less state — which is why I’m taking the Kings to win on the road. Sacramento is oozing with confidence after beating up some bad teams, whereas Philadelphia has had issues looking competitive in general. If the Sixers can’t turn things around on defense, it won’t take the Kings long to put this out of reach.
With the spread only sitting at a single point, feel free to take the Kings either on the moneyline or spread. The odds (-115) are identical, so it comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. Either way, expect to see Sacramento keep up the winning ways as its road trip continues.

Best Kings vs 76ers NBA Prop Bet (1/12)
Without Embiid sitting out of tonight’s collision, it’s a no-brainer to go with Domantas Sabonis Over 12.5 rebounds as the best player prop.
Sabonis has been thriving against the glass all season long, leading the NBA with 12.7 rebounds per game. While that average is impressive on its own, it has actually jumped up to 15.4 rebounds over the 27-year-old’s last seven games. That’s a span where he’s finished with the Over four times — including instances where he racked up at least 21.
Although the 76ers are typically strong in the rebounding department, they’ve allowed opponents to average 51.2 RPG over the last five outings — the most in the NBA during that stretch.
Showing zero signs of slowing down, expect another big night from Sabonis.
