Analysis & Breakdown

Just a Little Motion
I talked about this last week but the Lakers have just been so much better when lead by Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves. Lebron James has been good at 41-years old, but the Lakers have just been better when he takes a little bit of a backseat. The Lakers are 11-5 without Lebron this season and their net rating has been at it's best with him off the floor.
The Lakers two best lineups contain Luka without Lebron. Their net rating climbs to +14.5 with both Luka and Austin Reaves on the floor; without Lebron. Their offensive rating sits as high 122.1 but their defensive rating's even better at 107.6.
With just Luka on the court the team's offensive rating sits at 126.3 with their defensive rating at 117.8 (net: +8.5). The defensive is significantly worse when it's just Luka but the offensive rating jumps to the highest of any lineups.
Now not to detract from Lebron too much, with just him on the floor and no Luka/Reaves; the team's net rating sits at +8.5. This trio just doesn't work when Lebron and Luka are at two leading the charge. With just Lebron/Luka on the floor, their defensive rating jumps to 121.4 and their net rating drops to -3.5.
Luka's been Luka this year. He's averaging 32.8 points, 8.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game. He's lead the Lakers to a top three seed (so far) and people continue to slander him as if the Lakers are losing games.
H-Town
The Rockets are just a half game back of the Lakers for that No.3 seed in the Western Conference and with just 16 games left, the race is tightening up. The Western Conference is tight this year, just three games separate a third place and a team in this year's play-in tournament.
Houston's had an up and down year and no better evidence than the current string of wins/losses their currently on. The Rockets have alternated between wins and losses every single game since their win against the Orlando Magic on February 26th. Since then it' been eight straight games and they can't string two wins together.
The Rockets rank 4th in points allowed, 5th in opponent effective field goal percentage and have the 2nd best rebounding team in the NBA. They've been great defensively but on the offensive side they lack any consistency.
A 37-year old Kevin Durant is the team's leading scorer and Alperen Sengun is the team's second leading scorer at 20.2 points per game. The offense ranks 17th in effective field goal percentage, 21st in points per game, 16th in free throw rate and play at a bottom five pace.
When Durant fails to put the ball in the basket, this Rockets team tends to struggle.
Monday Night's Best Bets

Austin Reaves o8.5 A/R (-120) | Lucky Rebel
This team needs Reaves to work and looking at their last two games, it looks like they've figured it out. Head Coach J.J. Redick looks like he's ready to use AR in that 1-B role and as evidenced by Reaves' numbers the last two games; it looks like he's ready for the moment.
The Lakers have turned to the combination of Luka and Austin and it's working great. They've won nine games in a row and in all nine games Reaves has seen the 2nd highest usage rate on the team.
Lebron's played in six of the nine games and in two games since he's returned; the difference has been even more stark. Reaves is seeing a 25.3% usage rate in these two games with Lebron sitting at 20.8%.
Reaves has cleared this line in six of his last seven games and in 73% of games this year where he sees 30+ minutes.

Jabari Smith Jr. o21.5 P/R (-120) | Lucky Rebel
Smith's had a tough year this year but his numbers are still up across the board. He's averaging 15.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He's shooting 45.3% from the field and 36.6% from beyond the arc. All of these numbers are career highs for Jabari but some of the low points this year have just been that low.
Jabari's first game this month was a Rockets loss to the Golden State Warriors in which he shot 0/8 from the field. Despite the bad game, Head Coach Ime Udoka has stuck with Jabari and he's responded. In the four games since; Jabari's averaging 16.8 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
Tonight the Rockets face a Lakers's team that struggles to guard on the perimeter and even more with athletic forwards that can shoot. Aaron Gordon just scored 27 points on this same defense, grabbed 5 rebounds and shot 56.3% from the field.
Los Angeles ranks 27th in opponent effective field goal percentage, 29th in points allowed to opposing forwards and 25th in rebounds allowed to the position. Jabari's cleared this line in three straight against the Lakers and tonight's matchup should be more of the same.
