In 2022, the Western Conference was won by the Colorado Avalanche. It was their first trip to the final since 2001, and they ended up hoisting the Cup at the end of it all.
Last season, the Colorado Avalanche lead the charge in the odds, never giving up the top spot the whole way through the season. With their recent championship, the odds have gotten even shorter this offseason.
Compared to the Eastern Conference Title Odds, the West is a lot more wide open. Colorado has a huge lead over second place, and there are only 4 teams at +1000 or less. Here is how the odds stack up according to BetOnline.

Western Conference Favorites
Colorado Avalanche +185
The Avalanche are riding high into the offseason after their most successful season in two decades. The season saw them come up just shy of the Presidents’ Trophy, and they were Cup Champions for the first time since 2001.
The Avalanche are bringing back their core players for the 2023 season, and a lot of long-term contracts have been signed. With a dominant team, and a Top 5 offense, there is little to be scared about if you are an Avs fan.
Colorado has been a hockey town for a while now. They have finally reached their goal and now look to build upon their success, much like the Tampa Bay Lightning did over the past three seasons.
Edmonton Oilers +700
The Oilers made it back to the Western Conference Final last year for the first time since their Cup Final run in 2006. They will now look to make it back to the Stanley Cup Final in 2023.
The best overall player in hockey, Connor McDavid, lead the team in points with 123 in 2022. However, Leon Draisaitl stole the show, lighting the lamp 55 times last season. This dynamic duo will be staying together for the 2023 season, and it will be hard to stop them.
The Oilers had a Top 10 offense in the league, but their defense is what kept them out of the Final. They were swept by Colorado in the Western Final, largely due to their 18th ranked defense that allowed over 3 goals per game.
For the upcoming season, expect more dazzling plays from the star-studded lineup that the team has put together. They may be an underdog, but remember, they were just a few adjustments away from truly competing with Colorado in their last series.
Vegas Golden Knights +700
Vegas suffered their worst season last year, missing the playoffs for the first time since they entered the league in 2017-18. To say it was their worst season isn’t that bad though. They still finished in 4th place in the Pacific Division with 94 points. They were only 3 points out from a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
The Knights were an average team for most of the season. They would win a couple, then they would lose a couple. Their offense and defense were ranked in the middle of the pack, and they only had one 30+ goal scorer.
The addition of Jack Eichel from Buffalo last season had the Knights fans with really high hopes following the signing. However, he never really got a hold on the offense, and struggled to find the back of the net. He will have to play a bigger role in 2023 for this team to click.
Vegas has been a good team since the expansion draft. They made it to the Cup Final in their first season, so it shows the kind of depth that they have as a team. Don’t sleep on them to make a bigger push once the season gets underway in October.
