What Changed for Tampa?

The Lightning handed the Avalanche their first road loss of the playoffs on Monday. Colorado’s previous record was 7-0, and they clinched all of their series with a road win.

Tampa looked like a completely different team in Game 3. They became the first team since 1919 to win a Stanley Cup Final game after giving up 7+ goals in the previous contest. They did it the way they know best.

They got back to their defensive roots and blocked 27 shot attempts by the Avalanche. They kept their aggressive nature present with 40 hits and 25 penalty minutes. However, they killed off two of the power plays that Colorado had and limited them to a 2 for 4 night.

Tampa was outshot 39-34, but it didn’t matter with Vasilevskiy in net. He got back to his old self and shut down the speedy Colorado offense. He allowed 2 goals or less for a playoff-leading 10th time.
