Welcome back boys and girls. The 2024-25 NHL season is finally upon us! We’re going to get started off in the West, with a battle between the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers are the defending Conference champs.
It was a hell of a run of Edmonton last year, even though it didn’t end the way they wanted. They started out as one of the worst teams in the league then went on to have a 16-game winning streak and one of the top teams.
The Oilers lost to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Finals. Even though they lost, Connor McDavid was still awarded with the Conn Smythe trophy. McDavid carried this team with 32 goals and 100 assists during the regular season.
I think we see some good things out of this team this year. They added Viktor Arvidsson from the Los Angeles Kings and Jeff Skinner from the Buffalo Sabres. These 2 just add to an already dangerous offense with McDavid, Draisaitl, and Hyman.
Jets look to have another great season and make a playoff run
Winnipeg had a really good year last season despite not going far into the playoffs. They were 52-24-6 last season and recorded 110 points. The Jets finished 2nd in the Central Division, in front of Colorado and Nashville.
One of their keys to their success was goaltending. Coming fresh off his Vezina Trophy winning season, Connor Hellebuyck will be the teams starter again. He was 37-19-4 last year with a 2.39 GAA and .921 save percentage.
The Jets will be returning their core members. Kyle Connor, Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey all return. Connor is coming off a 34-goal season and Scheifele had 25 goals. Morrissey had 59 assists last season, so expect the same out of him this season.

We have good goaltending on each end of the ice. Stuart Skinner will get the start for the Oilers in their first home game of the year. Hellebuyck has also been confirmed as the starter for tomorrow’s game.
In the 3 games these 2 teams played last year, 2 went under. They were both early in the season like this game. I think there will be some early game jitters as well as some rust to dust off. Don’t get me wrong, the 2 teams will come to play, but I expect a slow start.
I like for Zach Hyman to get 4+ shots on goal, priced at +104. He has hit this number in his last 4 games vs the Jets. As more of an oddball, I like Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to record 3+ shots on goal at +122. We’re getting a lot of value, and he’s had 4+ shots on goal vs the Jets in 5 out of his last 6 games.
