Preseason is upon us and that means only one thing – stick and puck is right around the corner. A few weeks ago, we talked about the Central and Metro Divisions, so let’s get into the Pacific as well.
This is a division that is getting tougher now over time. Years ago, it may have been considered one of the easiest divisions in the league. Now, with teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings and Vancouver Canucks, have brought new life to the division.
On the bottom half of the division, you have the Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames and Seattle Kraken. Seattle is going into their 4th season as a team in the NHL. This team spiced up the league, as well as the Pacific.
Edmonton represented the Western Conference this past year, but Vancouver were the division winners. They won the over the Oilers by 5 points.
Some teams made new additions to their teams with the hopes of going all the way. We’re going to take a look at the odds to win the division, talk about a few of the moves made and then we’ll get into 2 teams.
Let’s check out some of these numbers and talk about a few changes each team may have or may not have made. To start us off, you have to take the defending divisional champs at 4-1 odds.
Seattle at 16-1 is really something to think about for a sprinkle. This offseason they added cup champ Brandon Montour and also added from the Golden Knights, Chandler Stephenson. Both players bring a lot to the table for the Kraken.
The Golden Knights had another solid season last year. They did lose Reilly Smith to the Rangers and as mentioned, Stephenson to the Kraken. They also added some help between the net, picking up Ilya Samsonov from the Leafs.
Edmonton and Los Angeles are 2 teams we’re going to dive into more. One is going to come back even hungrier than last year and the other has too good of odds to not sprinkle.

Man was this team close to winning it all last year. It was sad to see them come up short, but it just means they should want it more. Falling just 5 points short of a divisional title last year, they have just as good a chance this year to take it.
They added forward Viktor Arvidsson from divisional rival the Los Angeles Kings. Arvidsson is dangerous winger who missed almost all of last season due to injury. In 18 games, he had 6 goals and 9 assists.
Edmonton also added forward Jeff Skinner from the Buffalo Sabres. He is another offense heavy winger, who had 24 goals and 22 assists last year. Skinner and Arvidsson on a line with Leon Draisaitl is going to be insane.
I expect the Oilers come the end of the season to be right where they were last year. If anything, they have a better chance of winning it all this year over last. I really think with these new additions, that they could easily take this division.

Now we’re going to dive into a sort of dark horse if you may. The Los Angeles Kings at 5.5-1 odds is interesting to me. They were just shy of the 100-point mark and made the playoffs.
In the offseason, as mentioned in above, Viktor Arvidsson left the team to go to Edmonton. He is a big piece that will be missed, but they did just fine without him for the majority of the season last year. The team also traded Pierre-Luc Dubois to Washington in a situation that just wasn’t working.
The team returns veteran captain Anze Kopitar as well as Adrian Kempe, Kevin Fiala, and Drew Doughty. Los Angeles picked up forward Warren Foegele from the Oilers and he can bring some offense. Foegele had 20 goals and 21 assists last season.
The Kings have made a nice core with Kopitar, Fiala and Kempe. Young guys like Quinton Byfield and Trevor Moore started to really come together last year. It will be exciting to see how they play this season.
It will be a tall order to ask, but the Kings could win this division. Look how the Oilers started last season vs how it ended. They have all the pieces to be a good team and at 5.5-1 odds, I’m laying a sprinkle.
