Two giants of European soccer clash at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, as Bayern Munich welcome Barcelona to town.
This is the standout fixture from Tuesday’s list, and this match wouldn’t look out of place as a UEFA Champions League final at a major stadium.
Bayern Munich or Barcelona could lose this match and go on to lift the trophy as we are heading into week two of the group campaign, and there are still many matches to be played and plenty of hours ahead.
The stats sheet shows Bayern and Barca have met 13 times previously, with the first competitive match in 1996 in the UEFA Cup.
The head-to-head stats make for interesting reading, with Bayern Munich winning nine times, with two games ending in a draw and the other two awarded to Barcelona. Will that trend continue?

Pick of the bunch
There are some fantastic matches on the midweek schedule, but few come close to this one, with two huge teams in action at a stunning venue.
The Allianz Arena will be at capacity with millions more soccer fans worldwide tuning in to follow the match live on television, but which side will come out on top and land three vital points?
Bayern Munich enjoys the advantage of playing at home, where they will be roared on by loyal support that is used to getting their way and seeing the team win.
FCB got off to a flyer when cementing a win in their opening match of the campaign, beating Inter Milan 2-0 away from home with the goals that day scored by Sane and a D’Ambrosio OG. That was impressive.
Winning in Italy against one of Serie A’s top teams is no mean feat, but Bayern Munich showed their strength and experience, remaining patient until the first goal went in and then protecting their lead.
They had chances to make the scoreline even more impressive, but the three points have put them in a strong position early.
Mixed bag of results for Bayern
Bayern may be unbeaten in all competitions to start the season, but they have drawn their last three Bundesliga matches. So, there are certainly concerns for them ahead of this match.
They had struggled with draws in Bundesliga and were held to a 2-2 finish by Stuttgart at this venue on Saturday with Tel and Musiala on the scoresheet inside 60 minutes before Stuttgart nicked a draw in injury time.
FCB have reason to feel hard done by in that match, but the two points dropped serves as a reminder to the squad that they can’t afford to take their eyes off the prize.
Prolific Barca back in business
Barcelona spent a year in the wilderness as they paid a hefty price for breaking financial fair play rules in over-spending.
That meant the club were forced to allow Lionel Messi to move to PSG while looting the bargain buckets for any deals they could muster up. Signing top players on a shoestring budget is easier when the team is Barcelona.
They are back in the hunt for major honours in Spain and can be found second in La Liga, trailing Real Madrid by two points.
Their stats in Spain so far show they have won four and drawn one, while Blancos have a perfect five-game winning record, but there’s still plenty to do before that competition concludes.
In addition to the improvements made domestically, Barca is also keen to get their European football campaign back on track, with the team pushing hard for a place in the next round where they will enjoy the passion of knockout football at the highest level.
Recent results show that an extended unbeaten run of form for Barcelona as the club moves back towards what was once considered to be the norm.
They are still a little suspect at the back on occasion, but we can’t fault them going forward given their resources. That said, it will be interesting to see how ambitious the coaches and players are. Do they go all out and attempt to meet Bayern toe to toe?
Home team poised to make it two in two
Barcelona would likely see a draw as a decent result in this match, but they will certainly be encouraged by their performance last week when scoring five goals against Viktoria Plzen.
Bayern Munich is the betting favourite, but they are a slightly better price than I expected them to be. Their league results can be pointed to as to why, along with Barcelona’s recent form.
But that’s great news if you intend to place a bet on this match as, for your stake money, you are getting the value and a bet on the home team with a winning record in this competition.
We advise you to add a bet on Bayern Munich to your midweek multiples.
