Liverpool play Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield in the headline act of a six-match English Premier League programme on Saturday.
The action begins earlier in the day when Brentford host Southampton in London before the bulk of the play begins in the traditional 15:00 GMT slot. There’s plenty to keep soccer fans busy, but in this article, we focus on the main attraction.
The Reds play Spurs aiming to land another three points and keep the pressure on current league leaders and last season’s champions Manchester City.
Just one point separates Man City and Liverpool after 34 games, and that race is expected to go right down to the wire. Any mistakes made and points dropped at this stage could cost a team the title.
Will Liverpool make their home advantage count and add win number 26 of the campaign? Can Spurs wreck their opponent’s chances with an away win? Our read of soccer writers and sports betting experts preview, offering predictions and betting tips.

The big matches keep coming
The big games just keep coming for Liverpool as they fight for success domestically and on the continent.
At the start of this week, Jurgen Klopp’s side were in the semi-finals of the Champions League with a comfortable advantage over Villarreal, and they were right in the mix for the Premier League title. The unforgiving schedule may be starting to take its toll on the players, but there hasn’t been any signs yet of them running out of gas.
Liverpool pick up their league challenge placed second behind Man City, but there’s just one point between the rivals. The Reds bring season stats of 25 wins and seven draws against only two defeats, scoring 86 goals and conceding 22.
They have suffered fewer defeats than the league leaders and have scored more goals, but Man City have the better defence and – most importantly – the higher points return.
There may be a few players in this Liverpool squad that are feeling the pace, but they will be asked for one final push in the Champions League and Premier League.
Efforts in the first few weeks of May could decide if they finish the campaign as champions of England and Europe. What a double that would be, and it’s an achievement that would go down in history.
Since fighting out a dramatic 2-2 draw with Man City at the Etihad Stadium last month – a result that will suit the champions more than the challengers – Liverpool have played three league matches and banked a maximum of nine points.
That winning treble came thanks to a 4-0 over Man Utd, 2-0 against Everton in the Merseyside Derby, then 1-0 at St James’ Park to silence a dogged and determined Newcastle United team that fancied their chances.
Spurs lack consistency
Tottenham started the season on a high, but it has been a long, challenging campaign for fans who have been forced to look on as the Londoners continued to misfire.
Spurs haven’t lived up to their high standards and didn’t hit top gear until later in the season. By then, their title chances had already turned to dust. Their main aim now is to finish fourth and secure a welcome return to Champions League football for the 2022/23 season.
Heading into game week, Spurs stood fifth on the ladder with a stats sheet showing 19 wins, four draws and 11 defeats with 59 goals scored and 39 conceded.
They have scored more and conceded less than North London Derby rivals Arsenal, who are one place higher and clinging on to that fourth place that will be worth millions of pounds next season in European revenue. It’s fast becoming a straight shootout between Spurs and the Gunners.
The last three games in Tottenham’s season sums up how the year has gone for them, with their form reading lose-draw-win.
That lack of consistency has haunted them from back in the summer, always waiting in the wings to trip the Londoners up every time they build confidence and put together a decent run of results. Four points from a possible nine in that three-game run isn’t good enough when measured alongside Arsenal’s nine points in the same spell.
The visitors did win their most recent outing, beating Leicester City 3-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Kane opened the scoring on 22 minutes before a double for Heung-Min on 60 and 79 minutes helped Tottenham seal a crucial win, despite Iheanacho notching a late consolation goal for the Foxes, who haven’t been anywhere near their best this year.
Head-to-Head Stats & Trends for Liverpool vs. Tottenham
The head to head scores show this fixture has provided us with many goals in the last few seasons. The pair played out a stunning 2-2 draw in the reverse of this fixture back in December, with goals from Jota and Robertson met by strikes from Kane and Heung-Min Son.
The last two meetings have produced a total of four goals each, and both sides have been on the scoresheet in each of the last three and four of the last five. We are backing more of the same, with Liverpool winning 2-1 on the correct score market at great odds.
