Ontario's regulated iGaming market continued its strong growth in September 2026, reaching CA$416.3 million in gross gaming revenue.
The latest figures from iGaming Ontario (iGO) represent a 26.2% increase compared with September 2025. Stronger casino and sports betting results helped drive the market's performance.
Total wagering handle reached CA$9.71 billion during the month, marking a 13.6% year-over-year increase. Revenue also climbed 5% from August's CA$396.3 million. Meanwhile, active player accounts reached approximately 1.41 million, setting a new monthly record for Ontario's regulated market.
The growth also delivered a financial benefit to the provincial government. Under Ontario's 20% iGaming revenue-sharing model, September's operator revenue generated approximately CA$83 million for provincial coffers.
The results highlight continued demand for legal online gambling products across the province. They also reinforce Ontario's position as one of Canada's largest regulated iGaming markets.
Online Casino Remains Ontario's Biggest Revenue Contributor
Online casino games continued to dominate Ontario's iGaming market in September. The vertical generated CA$340.8 million in gross gaming revenue, accounting for approximately 82% of the monthly total.
Casino revenue increased 22.7% compared with September 2025. Furthermore, online casino wagering handle represented approximately 88% of the market's CA$9.71 billion total.
These figures demonstrate the continued importance of casino products within Ontario gambling. Although other verticals recorded stronger percentage growth, online casino remained the industry's primary revenue contributor.
Its established player base and broad selection of gaming products helped maintain its leading position. Consequently, casino performance remained central to the province's overall iGaming results.
Sports Betting Revenue Jumps 47% Year Over Year
Sports betting delivered one of September's strongest performances, generating CA$69.1 million in revenue. This represented a 47.3% increase compared with the same month in 2025.
The vertical also recorded approximately CA$1.07 billion in wagering handle. Its revenue growth significantly outpaced online casino's 22.7% annual increase.
The results indicate that sports betting continues to strengthen its position within Ontario's regulated market. However, casino games still account for considerably more wagering activity and revenue.
Together, these verticals generated most of September's total iGaming revenue. Their continued expansion therefore remains important to the province's market performance.
Poker and Operator Competition Add to Market Developments
Peer-to-peer poker generated approximately CA$6.4 million in September revenue. Players wagered around CA$130 million through regulated online poker platforms during the month.
Meanwhile, Ontario and Alberta have explored a potential shared poker liquidity arrangement. Combining their player pools could increase tournament participation and improve game availability.
The agreement could also strengthen the appeal of regulated poker platforms. Larger player pools generally provide operators with more opportunities to offer competitive tournaments and cash games.
Ontario's operator landscape also continues to develop. New approvals for Betsafe, BetMaster, and Loonie Casino highlight ongoing competition within the province.
As more operators enter the market, established brands may need stronger promotional strategies and gaming experiences. These developments could influence how companies compete for players throughout 2027.
Record Player Activity Supports Ontario iGaming Expansion
September's revenue growth coincided with a new record for active player accounts. Ontario recorded approximately 1.41 million active accounts, representing a 20.1% year-over-year increase.
The figure also marked a 16.8% improvement from August. This suggests that expanding participation remains an important factor behind the market's continued growth.
However, rising account numbers do not necessarily represent an equivalent increase in individual players. Customers can maintain accounts with multiple licensed operators, which affects how iGO measures market activity.
Overall, September's figures point to sustained momentum across Ontario's regulated iGaming sector. Record player activity and stronger sports betting revenue supported another strong month for operators.
With casino games maintaining their dominant position, competition will likely remain intense. Meanwhile, new operator approvals and potential poker liquidity agreements could further reshape the market.
Ontario's latest results demonstrate that its regulated online gambling industry continues to expand. The challenge for operators will be converting that growth into sustainable player engagement and revenue.
