We did it, we made it to the weekend. We've got a full slate of MLB games for this Friday night in July and I'm locked in on two big time hitters on tonight's slate.
Let's jump right into it and talk home runs.
The cheat sheet makes it a lot easier when I run through the stats I'm looking at and as always, hit me up on X if you've got more questions.
Colson Montgomery might not be a name you bet often, but he's quickly becoming a name you need to know. The 24-year old lefty is currently playing his second year in the big leagues, he's hitting .222 and he's hit 23 home runs.
Montgomery played about half the season last year, hit 21 home runs and finished the year with a .580 SLG. This year he's played in 88 of the White Sox' 92 games and he leads the team with 23 home runs.
The main reason I'm rolling with Monty tonight is the matchup. The Athletics will go with Aaron Civale tonight.
Civale's got a 5.23 ERA this year and he's giving up 2.0 HR/9 this year. He's given up 16 home runs this year and 11 have been to left handed batters. Lefties are hitting .326 off Civale this year with a 44% HH and .581 SLG.
Civale relies heavily on his cutter, a pitch we've seen Montgomery smash this year. He's hitting .386 against cutters this year with a 50% HH and 5 home runs.
Fresh off a game where he was walked three times, this line is still mis-priced.
In the month of July, Wood hit .364 with 4 home runs already and a SLG over 1.000.
The reason I'm going to Wood tonight is the fact he's going up against a lefty. Ryan Weathers is on the bump for the Yankees and he's been kind of bad this year.
Weathers has a 4.40 ERA but he's struggled against lefties this year. He's allowing lefties to hit .303 this year with a 38% HH and his two favorite pitches are pitches we've seen Wood smash all year.
