Last Tuesday, Shohei Ohtani took his first loss of the season on the mound. Tonight, both he and the Los Angeles Angels will look to get back on track as they begin a four-game road series against the Baltimore Orioles (6:35 pm ET, Bally Sports West & MASN).
The Angels (21-20, 11-11 away) have dropped six of their last eight games, including last Tuesday's 3-1 home loss to the Houston Astros. Ohtani went seven innings and recorded a quality start (6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 7 K) but was outdueled by Framber Valdez.
The Halos start a nine-game homestand later this week, and a good showing in Baltimore could be a catalyst for a hot streak.
It all starts tonight with Ohtani on the bump opposite O's rookie Grayson Rodriguez, who will be in search of his third win. Read on for our prediction and best bets for today's Angels vs Orioles matchup.

Can Ohtani Cool Off the Blazing Birds?
While the Angels are finding wins hard to come by at the moment, the Orioles (26-14, 13-6 home) are not having the same issues.
Since losing two of their first three series this season, the O's have won nine of ten series, with the only blemish coming against the Atlanta Braves, who were riding high with the best record in the National League before being swept at Toronto over the weekend.
At home, the Orioles have won five straight series and are 12-4 in 16 home games since losing two of three to the New York Yankees in their first home series of the season. Last week, they took two of three at home against both the Tampa Bay Rays and Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pitching has been key to that home success, and if that continues tonight, Ohtani will need to rediscover his best for the Angels to have a chance to get the series-opening win.
In their last four home series, the Orioles have allowed four or fewer runs 11 times in 12 games. Seven of those times, Baltimore has allowed two or fewer runs, including Saturday's series-clinching shutout win over the Pirates.
In his MLB career, Ohtani is 6-3 with a 4.04 ERA in 14 starts against AL East opposition. If you take out the Yankees, against whom he has allowed 11 runs in just 3.2 innings across two starts, he is 5-2 with a 2.79 ERA in his other dozen starts against the AL East.

After having the worst start of his young MLB career, in which he gave up three homers, six runs, and eight hits in 3.2 innings at Kansas City on May 4, Rodriguez bounced back well and got the win in last Tuesday's outing against the Rays (5.2 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K).
He did give up two homers against the Rays, but it was another solid effort for the rookie, who has allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last four starts and four of his seven MLB starts overall.
Ohtani enters this start having given up three or more runs in three straight starts for the first time in his MLB career, and he has given up at least one home run in three straight starts for just the third time in his career. So, he has not been at his best recently.
I think we'll see better from the AL MVP favorite tonight, which is part of why I'm backing the under here. But the Orioles are on a nice run right now and the value is too good to pass up here with Baltimore at plus odds.
