The Texas Rangers aim for their third straight win over the Toronto Blue Jays when the clubs collide on Wednesday at 7:07 p.m. ET. Texas has outscored Toronto 16-7 in the first two Rangers vs Blue Jays matchups, leaving time to tell if that trend continues.

After Robbie Grossman hit a two-run homer in last night's fourth inning, the Rangers didn't look back as they cruised to a 6-3 win over the Blue Jays. Shortstop Corey Seager also had a productive night, going 3-of-4 at the plate while being driven home twice.

Can the Rangers take one step closer to sweeping this four-game series? Or will the Blue Jays show some signs of life with a home-field victory?

This Rangers vs. Blue Jays preview has all of your betting needs covered, including the latest MLB odds and my matchup predictions/best bets.

Rangers vs Blue Jays Game Preview

Tonight's Rangers vs. Blue Jays showdown is fairly crucial when it comes to the American League playoff picture.

The Rangers — the AL's second wild-card team — sit one game back of the Houston Astros for the AL West lead. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays are tied with the Seattle Mariners for the final wild-card spot, which is also just 0.5 games behind Texas.

The Blue Jays must limit the Rangers' scoring after giving up 16 runs in the first two games. The good news is that Yusei Kikuchi's presence on the mound should help limit the opposition's offense.

Kikuchi has been terrific since the MLB All-Star Break, going 2-2 with a 2.44 ERA with 64 strikeouts over 55 1/3 innings in his last 10 starts. Furthermore, he's 3-0 with a 3.48 ERA in five career starts against the Rangers.

Meanwhile, the Rangers desperately need Jordan Montgomery to break out of his funk before the postseason arrives.

A trade deadline acquisition, Montgomery played well when he first joined Texas but has been struggling lately. He hasn't won a game since Aug. 15, going 0-1 with a 5.56 ERA in his last four appearances, and was just shelled for two homers and five earned runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in his most recent start (Sept. 8).

Montgomery also doesn't have the best track record north of the border. In three career appearances at Rogers Centre, the Sumter, SC native has a 5.79 ERA without a win after giving up nine earned runs, two HRs, and six walks over 14 innings.

If he can't get off to a hot start, the Blue Jays could start rolling early. After all, they've scored five or more runs in seven of their last 10 games.

Rangers vs Blue Jays Prediction and Best Bets

  • Rangers vs Blue Jays Prediction: Blue Jays 5, Rangers 3
  • Rangers vs Blue Jays Best Bets: Blue Jays ML (Best Value: -131 on Bovada) & Corey Seager Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110 on Bovada)

The Blue Jays are better than they've shown and will avoid getting swept. Kikuchi has been stellar and shouldn't have an issue out-dueling Montgomery. As long as Toronto avoids another earlier deficit, victory will be right around the corner.

Rangers vs Blue Jays prediction & picks (Sept. 13)

As for a Rangers vs. Blue Jays player prop I like, let's go with Corey Seager recording over 1.5 total bases (+110).

Seager has been one of Texas' best players, batting .322 while racking up 19 hits, six HRs, and 42 total bases in his last 14 games. He finished with over 1.5 TBs in nine of those outings and has already amassed eight in the first two games of this series.

With Rogers Centre being a friendly environment for the veteran, I'd be shocked if Seager doesn't make good on this prop again.
