Wednesdays are the 2nd biggest day in the NBA and we’ve got a huge slate of games to dive into. Let’s talk about my favorite bets on this Hump Day NBA Slate.
With 11 games on the slate there’s plenty of value to be found. The Nets are coming off an overtime loss last night in Brooklyn, and are now travelling to Memphis to take on Ja Morant and the Grizzlies.
The Pelicans and Warriors will play game 2 of this little back to back 2-game series at Chase Center.
Here are our best bets on tonight’s NBA Slate!
Atlanta Hawks -4.5 (-110) via BetOnline
The Atlanta Hawks traded away Dejounte Murray this 0ff-season and brought one of the most tenacious young defenders in the NBA; Dyson Daniels. Through 4 games this year, Daniels’ is averaging 12.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game; he’s also recorded 11 steals, and 4 blocks.
Daniels has been the perfect compliment to Trey Young and he’s helped the Hawks to a 2-2 record to start the season. Atlanta and Washington just faced off on Monday night, the Wizards getting the best of the Hawks; 121-119 in Atlanta.
The Hawks entered that game as a 7.5 point favorite but a shaky second half cost them the game. The Wizards’ had Kyle Kuzma and Jordan Poole combine for 51 points, with both players shooting a combined 65% from beyond the arc.
Trae Young had his worst game of the season, shooting 2/15 from the field, despite finishing with a near triple double (8 Rebounds / 13 Assists). Jalen Johnson finally had that break out game everyone had been expecting.
Young Guns
Prior to Monday, Jalen Johnson averaged 11.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3 assists per game. In his last game, Johnson scored 29 points grabbed 12 rebounds and even dished out 7 assists. It’s clear the Hawks are happy moving forward with the core of Trae Young and Jalen Johnson.
With these two at wheel, the Hawks are averaging 117 points per game (7th), and shooting 37.4 free throw attempts per game (1st). The Wizards rank 27th in opponent free throw attempts, and 30th in opponent points per game (125.3).
Atlanta’s scored 119 or more points in 3 of their 4 games, their only game going under that mark being against the tough Thunder defense.
Trae looks like he’s finally playing freely with the ball back in his hands, and the numbers show it. He’s averaging 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 10.8 assists per game; outside of his terrible game against the Wiz, he’s shooting 46% and averaging almost 31 points per game.
Tonight the Hawks get a chance at revenge and a chance to right what went wrong the other day.

That Pelicans line yesterday made no sense. The Pels opened up as a 4.5 points favorite against the Warriors, on the road, but closed as just a 1.5 point favorite. The Warriors would go on to win by 18 points, outscoring the Pelicans by 22 in the second half.
New Orleans came out the gates firing, they finished the first quarter up 31-14 but would enter the half with just a 4 point lead. Buddy Hield would score 19 points in the 4th quarter and the Pels would pull their starters before the game finished.
Steph Curry’ still out and Andrew Wiggins looks to still be a game-time decision. The Pelicans have now lost back to back games and both losses have been by 18 points or more. Tonight they get a chance at revenge, just 24 hours later.
It’s not often we get spots like this in the NBA, two squads playing each other back to back, and on back to back nights. We’ve seen the Lakers and Suns face off twice this season, splitting the two games; and we saw the Spurs and Rockets play back to back and once again, we saw both teams split the two games.
It’s tough to beach multiple times in the same year, it’s especially tough when you play each other multiple times in a short span of time; and it’s even TOUGHER when you’re playing that same team back to back.
The Pelicans enter this one with a chip on their shoulder. They got embarrassed last night and embarrassed by a squad missing two of their starting five. With no Steph tonight, with the Pelicans healthy, give me New Orleans in a revenge spot.
