<p>After splitting in Dallas and then again in Salt Lake City, the Mavs and Jazz are back in Dallas for a crucial Game 5 tonight.</p>
<p>If the Mavs win, they will have two chances to bag one more win and secure their first playoff series win since 2011. If the Jazz win, they will have a chance to clinch at home, where they have been highly successful over the last several seasons. </p>
<p>Dallas survived the first three games of the series without Luka Doncic, bouncing back from a Game 1 loss to win Game 2 at home and Game 3 at Utah behind big-time performances by Jalen Brunson. </p>
<p>Doncic returned for Game 4, and he stepped up with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and two big late shots to put the Mavs up 99-95 with less than 40 seconds remaining. But Dallas was unable to close it out, with the Jazz scoring the final five points to pick up a series-tying win.</p>
<p>Will the Mavs once again bounce back from a disappointing loss to take a series lead? Or will the Jazz set up a chance to close out the series on their home court?</p>

<h2 id="f7f6b">Is Brunson, Not Doncic, the Key to Victory for Dallas?</h2>
<p>After losing Doncic to injury and then losing Game 1 against the Jazz at home, I questioned whether the Jazz could get back into the series because of how reliant they were on their superstar.</p>
<p>Then Brunson put up 41 points, eight rebounds, and five assists to lead the Mavs to a 110-104 win in Game 2, and he followed that up with 31 points and six assists in a 126-118 win at Utah in Game 3.</p>
<p>With Doncic back in the lineup for Game 4, Brunson contributed 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists. But he shot only 7 of 18 from the field after going 15 of 25 in Game 2 and 12 of 22 in Game 3.</p>
<p>That mirrors his Game 1 performance, in which he scored 24 points but was only 9 of 24 from the field in Dallas’s 99-93 loss.</p>
<p>Whatever Luka does, the Mavs need the supporting cast to step up in order for the Mavs to have the best chance to take the Game 5 win, with Brunson the most significant supporting piece.</p>
<p>There isn’t a major difference between Brunson’s scoring output in wins and in losses during the regular season. He averaged 16.3 PPG in wins and 16.2 PPG in losses, and his rebound (3.9 RPG both at home and on the road) and assist (4.9 APG both at home and on the road) averages were the same. </p>
<p>But there is a difference in his shooting percentages in wins and losses.</p>
