With the 2024 Heisman Trophy race coming to a close, the spotlight is firmly on Travis Hunter as the clear front-runner. Despite impressive performances from candidates like Boise State's Ashton Jeanty, it looks like Hunter will take home the hardware this weekend. Here's a breakdown of why Hunter has the edge and what Jeanty's season has meant for Boise State's success.

Is There Value?
Some might argue there's always value in a long shot, but I think if you're still backing Ashton Jeanty to win the Heisman, you've missed the mark. The Boise State junior impressed with 209 rushing yards in the Mountain West Championship, but for Jeanty's Heisman hopes (mine included), this was his last chance to prove to voters that he deserves to be in the same conversation as front-runner Travis Hunter. Unfortunately, I believe Hunter will take home the trophy this weekend in New York City.
As someone who closely follows the Heisman race each year, this has been one of the toughest seasons to call. I understand the argument for Hunter—he's an electrifying talent, excelling on both sides of the ball. But from a running back's perspective, what Jeanty has done for Boise State, helping them secure a College Football Playoff spot, is undeniable. Without him, they wouldn't be in that position.
Despite my appreciation for Jeanty's season, the odds heavily favor Hunter, and the race feels like it's already decided. While sports can be unpredictable, this year's Heisman seems to be Hunter's to lose.
