Army is coming off a huge 57-0 win over Delaware State that saw the Black Knights' backfield combine for 287 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries. Meanwhile, UTSA aims for consecutive wins after a hard-fought 20-13 win against Texas State.

Army vs UTSA Week 3 Game Preview

Playing on the road hasn't been easy for Army. The Black Knights have dropped four of their last five away matchups, which includes a 17-13 loss to UL Monroe in the 2023 season opener.

Things don't get any easier tonight as Army faces a UTSA program that's won seven straight outings at the Alamodome.

The Roadrunners looked great at home against the Bobcats last week, holding Texas State to 242 total yards and a 3-of-14 (21.4%) third-down conversion rate. Needless to say, beating the Black Knights won't be as easy after they just dropped 57 points last week.

Army also has one of the most dangerous ground games in the country. Jeff Monken's team averages 176 rushing yards per game (No. 38) while 79.4% of their play-calling happens to be run plays (No. 2).

At the same time, UTSA did a good job at defending the run last season. The Roadrunners only surrendered 137.1 rushing yards per game (No. 41), which dropped to a clip of 134.5 at home.

They also had a plus-12.2 average scoring margin at home, whereas the Black Knights finished with a minus-2.0 mark on the road.

It's also worth noting that UTSA got the better of Army when the two teams collided at Michie Stadium last September. The matchup was an absolute shootout as the Roadrunners prevailed with a 41-38 victory when WR De'Corian Clark scored a 14-yard TD as time ran out.

Even though Army looked terrific, its road struggles can't be ignored. UTSA has been rock-solid at home and has momentum from defeating the Black Knights last year.

It's going to be another close, though. On top of barely beating Army last year, UTSA is only 1-4 ATS in its last five games and 1-5 ATS in its six previous Week 3 matchups. With the Black Knights going 7-1 ATS in their last eight games, look for the visitors to keep things close.

As for another Army vs. UTSA bet I like, I'm taking the Over on the 43.5-point total.

For starters, the Over is 7-2 in Army's last nine September matchups, as well as 5-2 in UTSA's seven previous Friday outings. These schools have averaged 55.7 points in three matchups since 2019, finishing with 44-plus points in each encounter.
