NFL Division Preview 2026: AFC South

The AFC South used to be the division everyone forgot about. However, it might now be one of the most fascinating races on the board. We've got a potential Super Bowl‑ceiling team in Houston, a polarizing Jaguars squad with weapons everywhere, a Colts franchise that doubled down on Daniel Jones, and a Titans team that went on a full‑on talent shopping spree.

With young quarterbacks, aggressive playcallers and plenty of volatility baked in, this is exactly the kind of division where futures tickets can pay off in a big way.

Houston Texans 2026 Preview
The Houston Texans are the rightful division favorite. Their defense is relentless, anchored by two freakish bookends in Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. Houston is far from perfect, though, with an abysmal offensive line and a quarterback in C.J. Stroud who has looked very bad in big moments.
I need to see the game slow down for him in big‑pressure situations. Among quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks last season, Stroud ranked 35th in catchable throw percentage and 38th in adjusted completion percentage, per Fantasy Points data. I'll be monitoring training camp news to hear about how good or bad Stroud looks early on.
If Stroud finds a way to process quicker and become more comfortable, the Texans have a Super Bowl ceiling. It helps that they have four games against Tennessee and Jacksonville, who both look to have subpar offensive lines to feast on. The Houston D should keep them in every game. I don't mind David Montgomery coming over from Detroit, but Woody Marks and company found zero sledding last year up front, and Montgomery isn't someone who screams "elusive" or "playmaker in space."
Indianapolis Colts 2026 Preview
I have to be honest: I'm a little worried about the Colts. The front office bought into about a month and a half of solid Daniel Jones play — enough to mortgage the farm and send elite draft capital for Sauce Gardner. Now, Michael Pittman Jr. is gone, and Alec Pierce's Week 1 and early‑season availability is up in the air. Josh Downs and Tyler Warren will be forced to inherit big roles, and opposing defenses will likely stack boxes early against Jonathan Taylor, who should be run into the ground again.
Downs and JT remain awesome fantasy assets based on predicted volume alone. However, I'm anxiously waiting to see how this season unfolds, with Jones coming back from a season‑ending injury and a few fewer serviceable weapons than last season. At +375, Indy is a live dog but also a clear volatility play — not a must‑bet, but worth a sprinkle if you believe the Jones sample was real and Shane Steichen can scheme around the wide receiver losses.
Jacksonville Jaguars 2026 Preview
Jacksonville remains the most polarizing team in my opinion, with the widest range of outcomes. Bhayshul Tuten and Chris Rodriguez Jr. both ranked in the top third of the league in yards after contact per attempt, meaning they can bulldoze defenders, but neither has ever been a true featured back before. The Jags have countless weapons on the outside, and their defense played at a top‑10 EPA‑per‑play rate last season.
Can Trevor Lawrence continue to play at the elite level we saw from him down the stretch last year? One thing about JAX and IND: they both have great offensive minds in Liam Coen and Shane Steichen. Jacksonville is sitting at +200 at Lucky Rebel, and if you buy the offense taking one more step while the defense holds serve, that's a very realistic path to a division crown.
Tennessee Titans 2026 Preview
The Titans have been the busiest of the four AFC South teams. That does not always translate to wins, but the arrow can only go north after a disastrous Brian Callahan tenure. Robert Saleh and Brian Daboll bring a wealth of structure and experience. Things can only go up for this offense.
They brought in Carnell Tate and Wan'Dale Robinson to literally get some guys open, and now they'll operate with Calvin Ridley, Elic Ayomanor, and Chimere Dike at the 3–5 WR spots — a big improvement over what we've seen here in recent years. How many wins is all of this worth, with Saleh pioneering an aggressive scheme? TBD. But I'm buying somewhere between 6–9 and a big year from Carnell Tate.
At +900 at Lucky Rebel, Tennessee is exactly the kind of longshot you sprinkle on when you think the talent influx plus coaching upgrade can flip a division.
