We have a showdown out West, and it should be a good one. The Boston Bruins traveled out to Ball Arena to take on the Colorado Avalanche. This is the first of two meetings between these two and both are this month.
The Avalanche are 4-0-1 to start the season and come into this game on a two-game winning streak. They are a perfect 3-0-0 on the road to start the season and just beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 on Thursday night. Both the offense and defense for this team have been great.
On offense, they are third in the league for goals scored and third in the league for shots on goal per game. Martin Necas, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar each have 7 or more points already through just five games. We all know how deadly this offense can be, and it looks like they're picking up where they left off from last season.
Defensively, the team has been really good. They rank second best in the league for goals allowed and ninth best for shots on goal allowed per game. Goalie Scott Wedgewood is 4-0-1 to start the year and expected in net tonight. Wedgewood has a 1.57 GAA and a .939 save percentage so far.

Boston trying to find themselves after a disappointing season last year

Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman and forward David Pastrnak celebrate after a win.
The Bruins are 3-2-0 to start the season. They come into this game on a two-game losing streak they'll be looking to snap. Boston is 1-1-0 on the road this year, but this will be a tough matchup.
Last game was an absolute goal fest where they lost 6-5 to the Knights. Goals were scored by David Pastrnak and newly added Tanner Jeannot. Mikey Eyssimont is another new face that got on the board, but it wasn't enough for the Bruins to win.
Obviously, defense was optional for both teams, but Swayman needs to play better. Vegas is just as talented as Colorado, so we could see more of the same, minus the goals because of how Wedgewood has been playing.
Goalie Jeremy Swayman is expected to get the start again. He is 2-1-0 this season with a 2.68 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Bruins vs. Avalanche picks.

Even though I'm odds are going to roll with the hot hand, I'm taking the under here. Both teams are coming off games where they each scored 4 or more goals, so we could see them level off. Both goaltenders have decent GAA's as well to keep this score down.
The play is a little juicy, but it's playable. Colorado's defense and goaltending will keep the Bruins at bay, so it'll only take a few goals for them to win this game. Yes, I'm riding with the hot hands as well and on the puck line.
Out of five games this season, Nathan MacKinnon has had 2 or more points in three of their five games played. He is coming off a goose eggs, so I like him for 2 or more points here for -102. Getting great value on one of the best in the league.
The other play I like is David Pastrnak to get 4 or more shots on goal for -104. He has hit the line in his last three games and is the obvious best player on this team. Boston did bring in some weapons this offseason to take the pressure off Pastrnak after losing Marchand last year.
