Game 1 of the WNBA Finals did not disappoint. In what turned out to be a defensive battle, the stars shined and the Golden State Valkyries took home the win.
Gabby Williams was fantastic in her first ever WNBA Finals game. She scored 26 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and came alive in the 4th quarter. The Valkyries went into the 4th quarter down 5 points and went down as many as 9 in the final frame.
Williams scored 8 of her 26 points in the final quarter and made sure she did everything she could to protect home court.
On the other side, the Atlanta Dream were fantastic; defensively. They held the Valkyries to just 32% from the field, 21% from the perimeter and held them to a postseason low 68 points.
Rhyne Howard and Alisha Gray combined for 31 points, but both shot incredibly poorly. The two combined to go 8/33 from the field and that's going to be an issue if it continues.
Angel Reese had 14 points and 12 rebounds in her first ever WNBA Finals game. She went 5/11 from the field and grabbed 5 offensive rebounds in the process.
Without wasting anymore time, let's jump right into Game 2 of the WNBA Finals.

Game 2 Best Bets

Stokes just burned us in Game 1 but that had more to do with a matchup adjust from Valkyries Head Coach Natalie Nakase. Stokes finished the game with 7 rebounds in 24 minutes and 3 of them came on the offensive glass.
Stokes has been incredible for the Valkyries this postseason, averaging 29.0 minutes per game, she's grabbing 9.5 rebounds per game and leads the entire WNBA in total playoff rebounds this year.
In a matchup with one of the best rebounding teams in the league and one of the best offensive rebounders in Angel Reese; Stokes is going to play a big role in containing both. She lead the Valkyries in rebounding this year and now in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, I'm going right back to her.

Angel Reese has been incredible in her first ever postseason. She's averaging 17.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, she's shooting 44% from the field and her team's in the WNBA Finals.
Reese had 14/12 in Game 1, didn't take a ton of volume but she was incredibly active on the glass. She finished with 5 offensive rebounds and tonight in what should be another defensive battle, I think we see more of the same.
Reese has cleared this line in 5 straight games against the Valkyries, including 3 of their matchups this year and now Game 1. Golden State ranks 10th in rebounds allowed to the center position and ranked 11th in opponent offensive rebounding rate this year.
