Welcome back to the WNBA scribbles for the 2026 season. We have a nice three game slate to start the season, so let's get into it. The Connecticut Sun will head to the Big Apple to take on the New York Liberty.
New York finished last season 27-17 and were fifth in the league. On the road is where they struggled, going 10-12. They killed it at home though with a 17-5 record. The Liberty will look to continue the home court dominance tonight and this season.
There is a big three core on this team in Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones. These three won a championship together just two years ago, so they have what it takes to lead a team. New York just added another superstar in Satou Sabally. It's going to be crazy seeing these four on the court.
They are also returning Benijah Laney-Hamilton, Leonie Fiebich and Marine Johannes. All three players that make this a deep roster. Two other players that can make a difference is Rebecca Allen and Han Xu. Both could add offensive and defensive help.

New look Sun team will try and find themselves this season

Connecticut Sun center Brittney Griner boxes out for a rebound in a preseason game this year.
The Sun finished last year 11-33 and were eleventh in the league. This team complete dismantled last offseason, losing forwards Alyssa Thomas to Phoenix and DeWanna Bonner to Indy. On top of that, they lost Brionna Jones to Atlanta which was another huge piece.
This season is another rebuild year. Second year forward Aneesah Morrow should get a lot of playing time this year and start some games. She was menace in her last year at LSU but didn't get playing time last season. I think she makes a name for herself this year.
Connecticut just grabbed guard Hailey Van Lith off waivers after the Sky parted ways with her. She also is in her sophomore season and didn't play much last season. This year she has a chance on a team trying to find their leaders and starters.
Let's check out the odds and get into the Sun vs. Liberty picks.

I see home court being a lot of the same for the Liberty this season. Even though it's a rather large spread, I think we see a blowout here. The Sun have been stripped to young talent, and we saw them drop to the bottom of the league last year.
The other thing is the amount of talent on the Liberty. It will be interesting to see how Satou Sabally fits in, but something tells me it'll be just fine. The Liberty are without guard Sabrina Ionescu for the next few weeks, so give Sabally time to settle in.
I lean with this game going under because I don't see the Sun putting up many points. Their offense is so young, and the Liberty defense is so talented that it's just such a mismatch. Connecticut probably puts up around 50-60 points and the Liberty win by 20 points.
Give me Satou Sabally to ball out. I like for her to get her points line, especially any number under 20 points. I will also sprinkle her three's which should be decent value for two three pointers. Jonquel Jones should be cleaning the boards to I like her there as well.
A sneaky play is going to be Aneesah Morrow. You can play her points, but definitely her rebounds. She is in her sophomore season and should break out this year with a ton of playing time.
