In this article, we're heading to the first game of Wednesday's three-game WNBA slate. The Golden State Valkyries will visit the Toronto Tempo tonight at the Coca-Cola Coliseum. This is the first of three regular season meetings between these two teams.
Golden State is 15-7 this season and currently third in the Western Conference. They come into this game on a five-game winning streak after a win over the Mystics on Monday. The Valkyries are 8-2 in their last ten games and 5-4 on the road so far.

The addition of forward Gabby Williams has paid off. She is averaging a team high 15.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on 41.5% shooting. Williams has played and started in all 22 games this season and become a core member of this team.
This team doesn't have the most explosive offense, but they get the job done. They rank toward the bottom of the league for points per game and in the bottom for pace. Golden State plays a slower game and tries to get you to play theirs while they cut you up.

Toronto will try to snap two-game losing streak tonight at home

Tempo guard Marina Mabrey reacts to the crowd after draining a three-point shot.
The Tempo are 9-11 in their first year and are fifth in the Eastern Conference. They come into this game on a two-game losing streak after a loss on Sunday to the Wings. Toronto is 4-6 in its last ten games and 5-5 at home this season.
It's been an interesting first season for the Tempo. Their biggest players have been veteran guards Marina Mabrey and Brittney Sykes, but there is lots of hope with rookie guard Kiki Rice and forward Nyara Sabally. It's going to take time, but they could build a core like Golden State did last year.
This team can score the ball and score the ball fast. They rank third in points per game and play with the fourth fastest pace in the league. They shoot great from behind the arc and have the fifth best offensive rating in the league.
It's on the other side of the ball that is the problem. The defense for the Tempo is nonexistent, and they rank thirteenth in the league for defensive rating. Toronto forces turnovers well and doesn't commit too many, but the Tempo don't rebound well and allow a lot of opportunities.
Let's check out the odds and get into the Valkyries vs. Tempo picks.

Although the spread is large, the Valkyries are really on the money right now. I think they take down the Tempo without a problem tonight and make it six in a row. This game will be a battle, but I think it will be won by Golden State and by their way.
One team here is super slow and the other is super-fast. I think the Valkyries have what it takes to slow down this fast Tempo team and make them play their ball. If they can do that, they should cover this spread in a low scoring game (aka the under, wink wink).
In the last game for Golden State, everyone was terrible. I think we see a bounce back from them all and I have to go with Gabby Williams to hit her points line. She is coming off a terrible game where she only played 17 minutes and scored two points with three rebounds. This is a great bounce back spot for her and I see her taking advantage and clearing this for us.
