We are headed out to Sacramento where the unaffiliated Athletics host the Cleveland Guardians in the final game of this series. So far, the visitors have won both contests already, so the hosts are looking to avoid the sweep, but can they do so? Check out our favorite MLB picks in this game.

Like I said, Cleveland has taken it to the A's in the first two of this series. They won game one on Friday night by a score of 8-5, and turned it on yesterday, winning 14-6. The Guardians have now won three in a row and sit with a one game lead over the Detroit Tigers in the AL Central. As for the Athletics, they are still on top of the AL West with a one game lead, but they have now dropped two in a row and are just 5-5 in their last 10 overall.
Tonight we have a southpaw on the bump from Cleveland, while the Athletics toss out Aaron Civale, who has not had a great season. Let's look at the betting odds and find out what we are wagering on this afternoon!

I definitely like the Guardians as a short road favorite in this spot. The Athletics' batting average does increase at home, and they already hit .250 overall as a team. But I would expect those numbers to improve at the Mickey Mouse ballpark they have been calling home. What sticks out to me, is the fact that their team batting average drops 20 points against left handed pitching.
They could struggle to produce some runs tonight.

Parker Messick has had several very good starts this year, and I see him having another one. He's allowed more than one earned run in just two of his six outings this season, and ranks fourth in the MLB in terms of ERA, and sixth in WHIP. Add in the fact that the Athletics struggle as a team against lefties, and I see him having yet another solid start.
Civale is coming off pitching five scoreless innings against the Royals, but can we really take anything away from facing the terrible Kansas City bats? Prior to that, he allowed three to the Mariners and five to the White Sox. Plus, despite him being just 1-1 in his last five starts, the Athletics are 1-4 in those outings. I'm not sure he will get the run support he needs to earn this win.
Cleveland's numbers improve slightly on the road this year, and I trust them to win this game and complete the sweep before heading to Kauffman Stadium for four games against the lowly Royals this week.
