This afternoon, they will look to break out the brooms at Petco Park, though they will have to push across some runs against a pitcher who hasn't been too generous recently.

Value High on Kelly, D-Backs to Avoid Sweep

The Padres are 5-0 at home against the Diamondbacks thus far this season, but there is a good possibility that undefeated mark will be no longer after today.

Kelly has been better against the Padres than he has been against any other opponent he has faced at least three times in his career.

In 11 starts against San Diego, he is 7-2 with a 2.43 ERA. And he has done well at Petco Park, where he is 4-2 with a 3.23 ERA in six starts.

Kelly has made only one start against the Padres this season, which was his first start of the year. On April 8, he pitched four shutout innings in a 3-0 loss in Phoenix, allowing four hits and two walks and striking out seven.

Along with excellent career numbers against the Friars, this matchup comes along at the perfect time for Kelly and the Diamondbacks, given how well the 33-year-old righty is pitching right now.

In three July starts, Kelly is 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA. In 20.1 innings, he has allowed six runs (five earned), 12 hits, and six walks.

Kelly has also been at his best on the road, other than a disastrous outlier of a start against the Dodgers on May 17, in which he allowed eight runs in just two innings.

In his other seven road starts, he is 6-0 with a 1.88 ERA (nine earned runs allowed in 43 IP), and five of his nine quality starts have come away from Chase Field.
