The UFC is taking the action back to Shanghai China for an exciting 12 fight card featuring many home town stars. No bigger star then Song Yadong who will take on Umar Nurmagomedov in a 5 round Main Event.

Nurmagomedov is ever so close to a title shot, and an impressive finish could cement his claim to the title. Another star that the hometown fans will get behind is Yan Xiaonan. She will be taking on the dangerous Brazilian prospect in a 3 round Co – Main event.

Main Event: Umar Nurmagomedov vs Yadong Song Preview – Bantamweight

The Main event of UFC Shanghai is sure to be a good one as the hometown star Yadong Song takes on Umar Nurmagomedov. MMA fans across the globe have been highly anticipating the return of Umar Nurmagomedov as he looks to state his claim for a title shot.

Yadong Song is no easy night for anyone, the ever so dangerous striker is a threat everywhere. What makes this fight so interesting, is both fighters are coming off a win over Deiveson Figueiredo.

The only difference is, Yadong Song actually finished Figueiredo while Nurmagomedov struggled to finish and won by decision. The finish by Song came by way of submission, the first of his UFC career.

What makes it ever more impressive, is the fact Figueiredo is a decorated black belt and former champion. The win came as a bounce back after a tough 3 round decision loss to O ' Malley.

The bout was incredibly competitive with O'Malley just nearly edging out Song. The loss came as yet another set back in Songs career, as the young prospect continues his run to the title.

Will Song Show His True Potential?

As of late he has been more 50/50, winning 1 fight just to lose his next. I expect this match up to go more of the same, as Umar Nurmagomedov is a relentless grappler and Song has struggled defending takedowns to this point.

Umar Nurmagomedov has put together quite the impressive UFC run thus far. In a 9 UFC fights the prospect is 8-1 including a 6 fight winning streak which earned him a title shot against Merab Dvalishvili.

Unfortunately Nurmagomedov came up short in his title shot, losing by Unanimous Decision. The Dagestani prospect shined early in the bout, decisively winning the first 2 rounds before breaking his hand in the 2nd.

After the injury Nurmagomedov was noticeably hindered by it and moved to a more grappling heavy game plan. Dvalishvili is a decorated wrestler so it certainly made the fight a lot more even.

Despite coming up short in the title shot, Nurmagomedov has bounced back nicely by winning back to back fights. Both wins have come by way of decision which confirms some of the concerns some fans have about his game.

Nurmagomedov struggles to finish fights due to his wrestle heavy game plans. The prospect values position over submission at many points, often not taking any chances where he could lose control.

To state your claim as a title challenger in todays UFC, you have to be able to finish fights. The UFC will drag out your run to the title if you are boring and unable to finish.

Will Umar Make A Statement?

In his 8 UFC wins, Umar has only finished 3 of those 2 coming by way of submission and 1 by KO. Nurmagomedov needs a big finish here to make his claim undeniable.

I believe it will be extremely hard to get a finish over Song, as he has only been finished once in his career and it came by way of KO. I am not exactly sure, Nurmagomedov is a shoe in for a title shot if he is unable to finish Song.

The relentless wrestling and grapple heavy pace put on by Nurmagomedov can only be so impressive. Eventually he will need to put all his skills together to make a real statement.

The 5 round main event is sure to be exciting due to the home town crowd for Song but Nurmagomedov is also not far from home. I imagine he will have a large fan base that shows up for him here.

I expect a wrestle heavy match up with Nurmagomedov securing many take downs and racking up control time. The only question that remains, is if Nurmagomedov will find the finish in 1 way or another.
