Stars of The SEC: Who Can Lead The SEC Back to Glory?

For most of my life growing up watching college football the SEC was the gold standard in the sport. But in recent years the Big Ten has been taking over and the SEC has seemingly fallen behind.

If the SEC wants to reclaim their spot as the kings of college football it will start with their stars leading teams into the playoffs and winning big games. Who are those guys and what will they have to do to bring back glory to the conference?

That is what we are going to be talking about today, so sit back and read along as we talk about who is going to put the "H-I-M" in Championship in the SEC.

What is the SEC?

Like we talked about last week to understand who will make the ultimate difference in conference we have to understand what the SEC is. A conference where football is taken as seriously as religion the fans and schools of the SEC expect nothing but greatness from their schools.

I mentioned it earlier but for most of my life the SEC dominated the sport, from the Nick Saban led Alabama teams to the wonder years of the Cam Newton led Auburn Tigers. In recent years though all these teams have almost seemed to have lost their identity.

What is that identity of a dominant SEC team? Being able to do any and everything to win. Most dominant SEC teams have been able to beat opponents in whatever type of game, whether it be a offensive shootout, a low scoring defensive game, or anything in between you have to be a master of all trades to win in the SEC.

The X-Factors

1. Arch Manning, QB (Texas)

There is not much that has not been talked about when it comes to Manning. The size, mobility, arm talent, and of course the lineage he comes from. But will this be the year he put it all together?

Manning has much to improve on, composure under pressure, reading defenses, and a questionable accuracy when attacking downfield. But I believe when you come from a family like his you and all your relatives knows what it takes to be great. Some early camp footage of Manning shows improvements on his deep ball and under the guidance of the coaching staff at Texas I am sure they have been helping him diagnose defeneses.

Texas is a program to built to win, with the plethura of talent on both sides of the ball and one of the best coaches in the sport I think if Manning takes the necessary steps to improve his game he will be able to lead Texas to the promise land.

2. Trinidad Chambliss, QB (Ole Miss)

After an eventful off season fighting for his eligibility to play another year Chambliss is ultimately back at Ole Miss and looking to go out on top in his last year of college football. With a year under his belt playing high level college football Chambliss should be poised to take a leap this year for the Rebels.

Last year he struggled a lot with defensive recognition pre and post snap but that comes with experience. Chambliss showed flashes of greatness last year, improvising plays and fighting to keep drives going.

For me I look for him to settle down more as a QB, only using his improv skills when absolutely necessary. Trusting in your team, coaches, and the gameplan will win you most of your games, but when the times where you have to put the team on your back? That is what will win you those games against a Texas, Georgia, or even a National Championship. \

3. KJ Bolden, Safety (Georgia)

Georgia has been the model of consistency in the SEC while other top schools like Alabama and Texas have had some trying years. The reason for the consistency? The defense. Georgia has always been able to field a great defense which allows them to always be in the mix for all their games.

This years defense is led by All-American Safety KJ Bolden. A hybrid linebacker that can do it all on the field, man coverage, zone coverage, and even drop into the box to help in the run game. To me he shows flashes of a Derwin James type of Safety which is terrifying in the grand scheme of things.

If Bolden is able to continue to be the swiss army knife of the Georgia defense I really like for Georgia to be able to be to win out and compete for not just the SEC crown but a National Title as well.

4. Ryan Colemon-Williams, WR (Alabama)

One of the most prized recruits in the 2024 recruiting class, Ryan Williams burst on to the scene his freshman year at Alabama. But then came a turbulent sophmore season for him as he and the Crimson Tide faced a lot of rough patches during the 2025-2026 season.

In what is most likely his last year of college football he looks to bring Alabama back to the days of Saban and raise his draft stock during that process too. But what does he have to do?

I believe he has all the tools already, speed, hands, and amazing route running. But the most important thing is availibility. Over the off season Williams has added on a reported twelve pounds of muscle which will surely help him not get so beat up during the season.

If he is able to stay healthy and be availble to make those astonishing plays we witnessed before then I think Alabama has a legit shot at the SEC and to even contend for a National Championship.

5. John Mateer, QB (Oklahoma)

Expected to command the Sooner offense Mateer is a seasoned college QB. Hopefully all that experience will pay off this year for a hungry Sooner fanbase.

Mateer tends to struggle under pressure relying on his legs a lot and also has questions when it comes to his accuracy. But those are all things that are fixable at the college level. If Mateer is able to grow from his last season at Oklahoma and improve on those weaknesses you are looking at one of the scarriest dual threat QB's we have seen in awhile in college football.
