Once a common sight, Grand Slam singles semifinals have featured at least one American man and one American woman just twice in nearly two decades. After Coco Gauff did her part at Wimbledon yesterday, it's now up to Taylor Fritz to complete this rare achievement today, and he has a fantastic opportunity to do so.
Yesterday, the first half of quarterfinal action took place at the All England Club, and it was quite the day of play.
In men's singles, No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner swept aside Jan-Lennart Struff, while No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic saw off No. 3 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in five sets and five hours, 14 minutes.
In women's singles, Gauff, the No. 7 seed, got the better of No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula in three sets in an all-American showdown, while No. 10 seed Karolina Muchova ended Naomi Osaka's run with a straight-sets win.
Yesterday also featured the completion of the fourth-round faceoff between No. 13 Jiri Lehecka and No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev, with the latter winning in four sets.
Zverev will be on court for the third straight day as he faces Fritz, who has his sights set on a second straight Wimbledon semifinal.
There's not much separating the two at Lucky Rebel or other top online sportsbooks, but will it prove to be the best match of the quarterfinals?

Wimbledon Day 10 Predictions and Picks
Men's Singles
Fritz vs. Zverev: Fritz ML (-132 at Lucky Rebel) vs. Zverev
Fritz has an overall head-to-head edge over Zverev, and he has won the last three meetings between them on grass, including the win in the Halle semifinals last month.
Cobolli vs. Fery: Cobolli -5 Games (-107 at Lucky Rebel) vs. Fery
Cobolli went into his fourth-round match against Alex de Minaur as a sizable underdog but booked a second straight Slam quarterfinal with a hugely impressive straight-sets win.
His reward is a matchup with the home favorite, who has rallied to win in five sets in his last two matches against Zizou Bergs and then Grigor Dimitrov. It has been an outstanding run for Fery, but he is venturing into unfamiliar territory, and I think playing consecutive five-setters will catch up to him against Cobolli.
Women's Singles
Noskova vs. Mertens: Noskova -2.5 Games (-112 at Lucky Rebel) vs. Mertens
Mertens has the advantage in experience, but Noskova is the superior talent. It is a tough call because I really like what I have seen from both of these players in the tournament, but Noskova gets the edge here for me. She has the potential to be a Wimbledon winner, whether this year or in the future.
Kostyuk vs. Paolini: Kostyuk/Paolini Over 21.5 Games (-115 at Lucky Rebel)
I'm actually a bit surprised to see Paolini make the quarters, especially when she was an underdog for her tournament opener against Renee Montgomery despite being the seeded player. But now that she has stuck around for a while, I don't expect her to be an easy out for Kostyuk, even though I see this one as a win for the Ukrainian. We'll either see three sets or two longer sets.
