Oklahoma's sweepstakes casino ban will take effect on November 1, 2026, prompting operators to withdraw or change their services. Several platforms have already announced restrictions ahead of the deadline, leaving players with limited time to review their accounts and redeem eligible prizes.
The changes follow the passage of Senate Bill 1589 (SB 1589), which targets online casino games using dual-currency systems. As the deadline approaches, Oklahoma gambling regulations are reshaping the state's social casino market and adding pressure to operators nationwide.
Sweepstakes Casinos Begin Withdrawing From Oklahoma
Operators are adopting different approaches as the November deadline draws closer. Some are leaving Oklahoma entirely, while others are removing sweepstakes features or closing their platforms.
ACE Casino exited Oklahoma on October 6, while Baba Casino plans to end Sweeps Coin gameplay and redemptions for Oklahoma users on October 21. Coin Wizard Games is scheduled to close permanently on October 28, although its parent company, Golden Hearts Games, will continue operating.
Stake.us has also announced plans to stop offering games to Oklahoma players after October 30. However, the platform will continue allowing users to redeem their sweepstakes coins beyond that date.
Meanwhile, Modo has stopped selling packages containing Sweeps Coins to Oklahoma users. The platform plans to remain available through Gold Coin-only games, giving it a different approach from operators leaving the state entirely.
These separate timelines mean players must check individual platform announcements rather than assume every service will close on November 1.
How SB 1589 Became Law
Oklahoma lawmakers approved SB 1589 during the 2026 legislative session. The Senate initially passed the measure unanimously, while the House approved it by a 65-21 vote.
However, Governor Kevin Stitt vetoed the bill on May 7, arguing that its language was too broad. He warned that the measure could criminalize everyday applications and create uncertainty for businesses and service providers.
The legislature ultimately rejected the governor's position. On May 14, the Oklahoma Senate voted 34-10 to override the veto, followed by the House's 68-19 vote. The measure became law that day, with a delayed effective date of November 1.
Under SB 1589, the definition of a representative of value includes currencies used in dual-currency systems that allow exchanges for prizes, cash, or cash equivalents. The legislation also addresses parties involved in providing or operating covered gambling games, subject to applicable exceptions.
Violations can carry criminal penalties, including fines ranging from $500 to $2,000 and potential imprisonment under Oklahoma law.
What the Deadline Means for Players
Players should review their account balances, redemption requirements, and platform-specific deadlines before November 1. Some operators may stop purchases or gameplay before the law takes effect, while redemption options could remain available afterward.
The distinction matters because losing access to gameplay does not necessarily mean an account's remaining eligible prizes immediately become inaccessible. Players should consult official operator notices and complete any required redemption steps within the stated timeframe.
Oklahoma Adds to the Wider Sweepstakes Casino Crackdown
Oklahoma's approaching deadline reflects a broader shift in US online casinos and social gaming regulation. Several states have moved to restrict sweepstakes casino models, although their laws and enforcement approaches differ.
For operators, Oklahoma's law creates a firm deadline to remove covered dual-currency offerings or withdraw from the market. For players, the immediate priority is understanding each platform's changes before November 1 arrives.
