Look, the AL Central sucks. There's no debate anymore. A couple weeks ago, no team in this division was above .500. Since then, things have changed, but overall these five teams really aren't that great. However, they're still playing baseball like anyone else. Tonight, the Cleveland Guardians find themselves in Motor City taking on the Detroit Tigers. After the Pistons were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs last night, Detroit fans can turn their full attention towards the Tigers, although it might not be very encouraging. Regardless, let's check out our favorite MLB picks for this AL Central showdown.

Framber Valdez has had a rough start to the year as a member of the Tigers
This will be the very first meeting between these two teams this year, who will end up playing 13 contests against one another. We begin a four game series tonight at Comerica Park, and both teams are trending in opposite directions.
The Tigers are coming off losing two straight to the Toronto Blue Jays, but they have now lost four of their last five overall, and are 2-10 in their last 12 games. Not great for Detroit. As for the Guardians, they are coming off two straight wins, have won five of their last six, and currently sit alone on top of the AL Central by a full game over the Chicago White Sox.
But can they keep the bats rolling today on the road against a lefty?

Guardians vs. Tigers Prediction: Detroit Wins and Covers, Over 8

Splits favor the hitters tonight, and we are going to lean into it by backing the over. Let's start with the Guardians. This team is just 11-12 on the road this year, hitting .232 overall and away from home. However, they mash lefties. Cleveland's team average of .232 jumps to .255 when facing left handed pitching, and Valdez has been getting shelled this year.
Valdez has allowed at least two earned runs in four straight outings, and his ERA and WHIP are both inflated slightly when he pitches at home. He most recently allowed 10 runs (seven earned) on just nine hits and a walk against the Red Sox at home in 3.0 innings. He did something similar against the Twins, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits in just 5.0 innings.
As for Detroit's bats, they are 13-8 at Comerica Park, and the splits add up. Detroit hits .239 overall, but .245 at home. Plus, against right handed pitchers, their average jumps to .247. Slade Cecconi is coming off four scoreless innings over the Angels, but do those bats really compare? So far this season, Cecconi has allowed at least two earned runs in six of his nine starts. Plus, his 5.60 ERA jumps to 6.60 and his 1.58 WHIP to 1.70 on the road.
This is the perfect game for both teams to score plenty of runs.
