As the title suggests, this year, the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party was moved inside, as the No. 17 ranked Florida Gators take on the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Usually, the two SEC giants go at it in Jacksonville. This is the first year this matchup is being played somewhere else since 1995, when the two did a home and home series in '94 and '95. Since 1933, this is just the third contest outside of Jacksonville. With both teams coming off a bye, who walks away with a victory in this one? Find out with our expert NCAA Football picks below.
Per usual, both teams come into this matchup coming off a bye week, but the Bulldogs are also coming off a home loss to the unranked Auburn Tigers. There might be some extra motivation to step on Florida's throats and get some anger out of their system, even if they do have a trip to Oxford on the horizon. But Kirby Smart knows his team needs to be damn near perfect from here on out, like the rest of the SEC with one or two losses. They can't be looking ahead, but if any team is capable of avoiding doing so, it's Georgia.
Jon Sumrall is playing chess and not announcing his starting quarterback. It could be Aaron Philo, or backup Tramell Jones Jr. who led them to an upset win in Austin. But either way, it doesn't impact my handicap all that much, as I think this one could get ugly.
Matchup Information – Florida vs. Georgia – October 31
Florida has no defense to slow down Georgia. None at all. They gave up 38 points to South Carolina in the Swamp, and 45 to Missouri and 39 to Auburn on the road. The defense does not travel, and even on a neutral site, the Dawgs are going to be able to score. This game being in an indoor stadium gives the passing game plenty of advantages, and I'll certainly give that side of the ball to Georgia. I think we could see something similar to Georgia vs. Oklahoma, where the Dawgs annihilated the Sooners' offense.
Plus, Kirby Smart is off a bye week, AND a loss. Following a loss last year, he obliterated the Kentucky Wildcats, 35-14. In 2024, the Dawgs beat Auburn 31-13 and No. 7 Tennessee 31-17 coming off a rare L. And in 2023, after losing in the SEC Championship and missing the College Football Playoff, they beat Florida State 63-3 in a bowl game.
After a very bad loss to Auburn, Smart and the Dawgs will show no mercy to this Florida team in a rivalry game at an NFL Stadium. They are still the best team in the country in my eyes. Woof, Woof.
