Indiana lost a lot of really good players off their championship team a year ago. The biggest loss was going to be replacing #1 overall pick and Heisman trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza. Josh Hoover needs to play a lot better than he did vs Ohio State for Indiana to win on the road on Saturday. Too many times he was inaccurate against the Buckeyes. Going up against a very talented Michigan defense if he struggles again the Wolverines could pull the upset.
Michigan is dealing with QB problems of their own as well. Bryce Underwood, who Michigan gave 12 million dollars to in NIL money has been terrible. After a scoreless first half last week against Penn State, Head Coach Kyle Whittingham decided to make a change. He put in Tommy Carr at QB and the offense put up 21 second half points. I would expect to see Tommy Carr again at QB this week for the Maize and Blue.

Indiana suffered their first loss on Saturday since 2024 when they played Notre Dame in South Bend in the College Football playoff. It's only the third time Cignetti has lost since he's arrived in Bloomington and still only the two teams to beat him are Notre Dame and Ohio State. It's really tough to beat Indiana, but they do play plenty of close games, especially difficult true road games.
Last year, Indiana went on the road and played at Iowa and at Penn State. They defeated the Hawkeyes, 20-15 and beat Penn State, 27-24. Two weeks ago they went on the road to Lincoln, Nebraska and beat the Huskers, 20-17. This week they take on Michigan who has a similar DNA to all of those same teams. Good defense, struggling offense, first to 20 points probably wins the game. In those kinds of games Indiana has won, but they've all been within a touchdown. I'm expecting a similar result on Saturday.
Plus, the spot is not ideal for Indiana. Alabama just dealt with this playing Georgia and Tennessee. The Crimson Tide had a really tough home loss to Georgia and then the following week went to Knoxville and lost outright as a touchdown favorite to Tennessee. After a brutal loss at home to Ohio State now Indiana has to go on the road as a touchdown favorite against Michigan.
This Michigan team has played everyone close this season. They are 4-2 on the year and five of their games have been decided by one score. This game for me is all about the number. Getting a +7 or higher is a bet for me on Michigan. I think Indiana wins the game, but it's going to be close. Michigan's defense will keep them in the game and Tommy Carr at QB should give them more consistent offense then Bryce Underwood has.
