Our Copa America favorites and defending champions kick off their Quarterfinal match tonight as Argentina takes on Ecuador. The 2022 World Cup Champions and 2021 Copa America Champions, won all 3 matches in their group, never allowing their opponents to find the back of the net one time in three matches. Ecuador finished 2nd in theirs, after goin 1-1-1 in the group. They lost to eventual Group Winner, Venezuela, but then handled business against Jamaica, and drew with Mexico, which is all they needed to do to advance.
However, group stage is over, and now it is do or die.
Something interesting to note with these Copa America Knockout games, is they will only be 90 minutes long regardless of the result. If two teams are tied after regular time, the sides will go straight into penalty kicks, no extra time, which is usually the standard.

Will Messi and Company Handle Business?
Messi and Argentina are back in action tonight in the Copa America Quarterfinals
From the very beginning, this has been Argentina's tournament to lose. Brazil has not looked like themselves, and Argentina always had the easiest trip to the Copa America Final anyways. Argentina plays Ecuador, and then either Canada or Venezuela. All three of those teams are outside the Top 30, and their Semifinal matchup with be with a team ranked 48th or 54th in the World.
The other side of the bracket is stacked. Uruguay faces Brazil, while Colombia plays our Cinderella, Panama. Here, we have 3 Top 15 teams in the World, with Panama being ranked at 43rd. Point being, Argentina and company have a cake walk to the Final Match, they just better not mess it up.
I don't think they will, because let me tell you, they have been very focused. Despite not scoring 3+ goals per game like some expected, I have been most impressed with their defense. Argentina currently has 3 shutouts in this tournament, and even with the likes of Emi Martinez in net, the backline has been rock solid. They have allowed just 6 total shots on target on 19 attempts, and 7 corners in their 3 group stage matches. Nobody is taking this team down before the Final.

Best Bets: Argentina -1.5 (+145) Bovada
While I ultimately think (know) that Argentina advances, I can't bring myself to lay -218 on the ML or the (-124) on the -1 for push potential. I will be sprinkling on the -1.5 at (+145). To me, this is getting the most value out of backing the Argentinians, and I think we're getting a fair price. Argentina has won 2/3 group matches by 2 goals, and although Ecuador played Mexico and Venezuela tough, Argentina is a totally different animal.
They have had zero competition in looking like the best team in the tournament, and I am looking forward to an all sky blue final as Argentina faces Uruguay in the Copa America Title Match.
