The excitement of Group F continues today in Houston as Sweden take on the Netherlands. Now the Swedes are coming off a 5-1 routing of Tunisia in their opening match, where both Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak got on the scoreboard. As for the Dutch, they gave up an equalizer late in their match against Japan to earn a draw. Will the Orange be able to pick themselves up following the loss? Or do the Swedes keep rolling? Viktor Gyökeres had a goal and an assist for Sweden in their opening World Cup match
Now, I have stake for the Netherlands and Japan to be the top two teams in this group. So far, that isn't looking too good. However, if both beat Tunisia and both beat Sweden, we will be fine. But Sweden certainly didn't look beatable in their first match. They ran up the score over Tunisia, and certainly helped themselves if things come down to goal differential.
The Netherlands were tied up in a scoreless draw at halftime against Japan, but then both teams lit up the scoreboard, combining for four goals in the final 40 minutes of the match. Will we see plenty of fireworks in Houston like we did for the Swedes first match? Or do we have faith in the Dutch defense turning things on?

Even though I need the Dutch to win this match for our Group F future, I also need Japan to perform well. With that in mind, a smarter man might place some sort of wager on Sweden in order to "hedge" my future bet… I will not be doing so.
I am not going to overreact to the first matches between either teams, we are taking the Dutch in a low scoring contest. In their match against Japan, the Netherlands produced just 0.79 expected goals, while they allowed just 0.59 from Japan. Yet we still saw two goals a piece!
The Netherlands had shutouts in five of their eight UEFA World Cup qualifying matches. Sure none were against an offense like Sweden's, but as I've said before, that performance against Tunisia was an outlier.
It won't happen again. Give me the Dutch!
