After losing two straight games to unranked teams, the Texas Longhorns find themselves staring down the barrel of three ranked opponents over their next four games, two of which will be on the road. However, this week they are at home against a top 10 team in the country, as Trinidad Chambliss and the No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels head to the Lone Star State. Will Steve Sarkisian and Arch Manning find a way to turn things around? Let's see what out NCAA Football experts found as their favorite picks in this contest.
NCAA Football Expert Insights: #7 Ole Miss Rebels vs. #19 Texas Longhorns
Arch Manning and the Longhorns need to avoid a third straight loss. It won't be easy against the Rebels.
All season long, I've been waiting. It was never IF the wheels would fall off this Texas team, but rather a matter of WHEN. Well, folks, we've made it. After starting off 4-0, the Longhorns are now on the outside looking in at the College Football Playoff, ranked No. 19 in the nation and sitting at 1-2 in SEC play. One more loss and they can kiss the CFP goodbye (in my opinion).
On the other side of things, the Rebels are humming. I will absolutely overlook that loss to Florida in the Swamp, which was the ultimate let down spot after kicking the crap out of your former head coach. This Rebels team has the talent to win a National Championship, especially if we get the defense that held a Missouri team to just three total points. I think the wrong team is favored in this Saturday's matchup.
Matchup Information – Ole Miss vs. Texas – October 24
Venue & Location: DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium (Austin, TX)
Full disclosure, I booked the Rebels once I saw them getting the field goal and a hook for -114. But as you can see, I like them to win this game outright. Typically I would lean into the fact that "the books are telling me who wins", but I can't get over how bad the Longhorns are. Sark has completely lost the locker room (so it seems), and even the delusional Longhorn faithful are second guessing Arch's abilities to be "the guy".
I will also finally be taking a position in the Heisman race, as I think Trinidad has a shot, and I'm okay with the price at 7-1 for a half unit. Once he shows out on the road against a great defense while Jeremiah Smith sits on the sidelines and questions who is QB might be coming back, Chambliss should be less than 5-1 on Sunday morning.
There are levels to this game, and in my eyes, the Rebels are one of only five teams that have the ability to win the National Championship. The Longhorns are not one of them. Ole Miss outright, call it a 34-21 ball game.
