The Tennessee Volunteers are one of the hottest teams in not only the SEC, but all of college football at the moment. They are 6-1 on the year, with that one blemish coming at home to the then No. 1 Texas Longhorns. The Volunteers still covered the spread. But after a big, emotional, upset win over Alabama, can they keep their focus on the road against a South Carolina team that is coming off a bye week? LaNorris Sellers and the Gamecocks host the Volunteers this weekend. Can their offense come to play?

Like I said, since that loss to the Longhorns, the Volunteers have won three straight. An SEC Championship appearance is certainly in play, as no teams remain undefeated in the conference, and the Vols are one of four with just a single loss. Perfection from here on out could get them into that matchup, and give them a seat in the College Football Playoff once again.

But South Carolina is here to play spoiler. After close losses to Mississippi State and Kentucky, and a blow out loss to Alabama, the Gamecocks pulled off a huge upset over Florida, winning 38-19. After a week of rest, they are back at home as a slight favorite over a top 12 team in the country. Could this line be telling that we see a Gamecock victory this weekend?

Tennessee vs. South Carolina Prediction: Tennessee Wins Outright, Under 50.5

Best Bets: South Carolina Team Total Under 24.5 (+100) BetOnline

I originally liked the under in this game, but I am certainly on the side of the Volunteers. Typically I would tell you that the line is telling, that the books are letting you know South Carolina wins this game. I disagree, I think the wrong team is favored. But instead of backing the Vols, I'll just back their defense.

South Carolina put up 34 points against Kentucky and Mississippi State, and 38 against Florida. What do all of those teams have in common? They don't play defense. However, when the Gamecocks faced a solid defense in Alabama, they were held to just 18 total points, and three explosive plays (20+ yards or more). Last week, when the Volunteers played the Crimson Tide (a better offense than South Carolina's), they held them to just one explosive play.

Point being, Tennessee's defense is legit. They have allowed 20+ points just twice this year, to Texas when covering the spread, and in a 45-24 win over Georgia Tech. I will take their offense out of the equation, and simply back that side of the ball to show up on the road. They have leaned on their defense all year long, especially against Alabama and Texas. As long as they keep their focus, which they should as they head into a bye week, they can certainly contain the Gamecocks to under three touchdowns.

Give me Tennessee outright as well for those who want an extra sweat.
