It's a tough morning for us Americans.

The World Cup dream came to an end last night, and it wasn't easy to watch. It's disappointing to see the run end, but hopefully this program learns from the experience and comes back stronger in four years.

The tournament rolls on, though. There are still matches to be played and a trophy to be lifted.

Let's get into today's slate.

This is a massive challenge for Egypt.

They face the defending World Cup champions and one of the best teams in the world in Argentina.

Egypt have exceeded expectations during this tournament. They have done enough to reach this stage and deserve plenty of credit for their run.

That said, this is easily their toughest test so far.

If Egypt are going to pull off an upset, their star players must deliver. No player is more important to that effort than Mohamed Salah.

At +250, this number is simply too tempting for me to pass up.

Argentina remain the favorite and should advance. However, they have shown some vulnerabilities.

We saw that in their last match against Cape Verde. Egypt will be hoping to exploit similar weaknesses.

Salah enters this match with one goal and two assists in the tournament. He is also coming off an excellent performance against Australia.

Even when he wasn't directly involved in a goal, he impacted the match. His movement, creativity, and ability to carry the attack were on full display.

I still expect Argentina to win this matchup. However, I don't think Egypt will go quietly.

If they find a goal, there's a strong chance Salah is involved.

Gustavo Puerta 1+ Shot on Target

Colombia's midfield has been one of the best all tournament led by Puerta.

 

Switzerland and Colombia should provide one of the best matches of the day.

Both teams are playing excellent football right now. Both squads also have quality throughout the pitch.

I lean toward Colombia in this matchup. They have looked like the more complete side during this tournament.

One player quietly putting together a strong World Cup is Gustavo Puerta.

He has become a key piece of Colombia's midfield and continues to make an impact in every match.

Puerta is averaging 3.09 shots per 90 minutes and 1.03 shots on target per 90 minutes at this World Cup. Those are excellent numbers for a midfielder.

He wasn't this aggressive for his club last season. However, he has consistently found himself in advanced positions for Colombia.

That change in role has created more opportunities around the box.

The toughest opponent Switzerland have faced so far was Canada. In that match, they conceded seven shots on target.

Colombia are averaging roughly that same number per match in this tournament.

Puerta should continue to find space in central areas. He has also shown a willingness to shoot whenever an opportunity presents itself.

Whether it's from distance or around the edge of the box, I like his chances of testing the goalkeeper at least once.
