Humpday CUSA action is back on our screens on this fine Wednesday. There are two contests in this conference tonight, as Middle Tennessee State hosts the Kennesaw State Owls. However, we will turn our attention to the later matchup between the New Mexico State Aggies and the Jacksonville State Gamecocks. Both of these teams have winning records in conference play as the season slowly comes to an end. Will the Gamecocks pull off this win as a short road favorite? Or will the dogs be barking in Las Cruces? Find out with our NCAA Football expert picks below.
NCAA Football Expert Insights: Jacksonville State Gamecocks vs. New Mexico State Aggies
Caden Creel loves to use his legs, and we will be backing him to do so tonight on the road
Neither of these defenses are that great, end of sentence. Despite the Gamecocks winning four in a row, they haven't done so convincingly. Jacksonville State has won three of their last four games by four points or less, with the one bigger win coming against Middle Tennessee by 10 at home. On the road, they have struggled this year, but again, the Aggies aren't all that great.
New Mexico State is coming off a win over Sam Houston, but face a well rested Gamecocks team that is coming off a bye week. Even though they are 2-1 in conference play, the Aggies are just 3-4 overall, and are not a great football team. But tonight, we've backed a couple of different players to find the promised land.
Matchup Information – Jacksonville State vs. New Mexico State – October 28
Venue & Location: Aggie Memorial Stadium (Las Cruces, NM)
Let's start with my rationale for this play. James Jones to score a touchdown was listed anywhere from -165 (which is what we took), all the way up to -250. So we've gotten roughly 100 cents of "value" to kick things off. Jones has four rushing touchdowns this season, including one through the air as well, so he scores in over half his games.
Caden Creel is the same way. The quarterback for the Gamecocks is the leading rusher in terms of yards, carries and touchdowns this year, with four rushing TDs across four different contests. He did not have one last game, so with the extended break, his legs should be ready to take him to the end zone.
Like I said, I think we see plenty of points, as both defenses struggle. New Mexico State is outside the top 70 in third down conversions allowed, while their visitors are bottom 10 in the country in that category. Because I think we see tons of scores, each of these guys should have plenty of opportunities to find a touchdown for us. Swallow the chalk, and let's times our money by 1.5 tonight in New Mexico.
